You're right, George Heslop had it in the 80's. It was renamed "The City Gates" at the time. The story goes that City were formed there at a meeting in the pub/hotel from the old Ardwick FC. The team used to change there before games up until they moved to Maine Road. I only went in there once. It was a family Do, think the whole place was hired out. I remember George picking a young lad up to show him photos on the wall from his playing days. The lad said "You've got more hair now than when you played for City".... George was sporting a terrible wig at the time. Also, Steve Kinsey was on the Do, I've no idea why.
I knew that boozer. I thought GM buses had some driving centre behind the there and that was previously where City played at one time. Can anyone confirm?
Anyway, back on topic.... Clive Wilson worked as an estate agent. I think he was on Homes Under the Hammer or something similar.
