Were we still 'facing relegation' when we bought De Jong - at the time a strong DM was money well spent - June may have been too late.

de jong is worth every penny........an absolute necessity in any side.......and bloody good at it too................

gareth barry- jan value 18m- we buy @ 12m........

RSC- jan value 25m- we buy@ 17m...................

can,t argue with that......even you hughes haters.....................

In the interest of balance ;-) all players will be more expensive in the Jan transfer window as a)teams don't want to get rid and b)Jan buys tend to be only those that are desperately needed.

so it,s not good business,then???????????..........i must be missing something.......pay 18m or 12m???????......pay 25m or 17m????..........no,go on you,ve got me..........

It's OK business, but it's nothing to do with Hughes, Cooke, the owners, etc. It's just the way finances work in the world of football (as others have pointed out in this thread).

hughes hater..................

moreover, de jong would have signed his new contract and would not have been avaliable for the low price the press bounded around when we got him.

Well we don't know that. I really like the player but even his selling club said we offered more than double anyone else. There was no need. Just playing devil's advocate.

RSC was only 25mil in Jan because sparky showed his hand and Blackburn knew he had publically said he was in for him. The price was massively overinflated because

a) it was January
b) it was Hughes and City and he had millions burning a hole in his pocket

I still think that £17m is too much for a player that missed last season through injury - he had one good season in the Prem thats all. Look at Benjani's goalscoring record before he joined us !

I agree I was shocked by what we have been reported as having paid for Barry, a great bit of business, but 17m for RSC is a shocker....(500,000 for every goal he scored while he was at Blackburn in profit).

I couldn't care less how much we are spending on players, it's not my money we are spending. At least we are making moves EARLY and IMO the right moves, so far 2 good signings more to come, happy days.
Come on City
