Lakey, the word legend is branded around far too easily these days, however you truely deserve to be called one. Thanks for many of my early memories of being a blue.
10) Lakey....how did you actually feel when you kicked off your testimonial knowing it would be the last time you kicked a ball ever at Maine Road?
Bereft. Like I was dying inside. I could hardly look up at my beloved Kippax because I felt so choked up. But I knew that I had to swallow my tears and keep control because there were lots of people there who had done so much for me that day, from the fans and the testimonial committee to the players and the managers. I owed it to them to try and keep my head held high, regardless of how I was feeling inside. My son had been born just a few hours earlier so I was all over the place, really. I sobbed my heart out when I got home.
I was crying my heart out that day as were numerous others on the kippax around me
Lakey - my 1st true blue hero and will always be my fav city player
dont know how often paul gets to see city, and i dont know if he has the time, but would love to know his views after games, in effect bluemoons pundit, would be ace questioning tactics, subs, line ups, with someone who had crossed the line.
The most gutted I've been whilst supporting City was the day he called time (and the day SWP left for Chelsea). Sometimes there is no justice when you think of some of the wankers who wasted their talent and Lake, who would have been one of Englands (let alone City's) best. He was a better centre half than Goofy and a better midfielder than Platt.
My dad thinks you are the 2nd best player to have played for City (behind Colin the King). I remember when you went down against Villa (it looked nothing) and not believing it when I read how badly injured you were. Also remember you swallowing your tongue and seeing you convulse on the pitch. Dr Luft was my GP at Brunswick Health Centre and I remember asking my mum to make an appointment to see him just so I could say thanks for saving you.
Good luck Lakey - as others have said a true City Legend
