The Observer publishes an annual Human Rights Index and lists the 100 worst offenders. UAE is at 86 this year.

To be fair most of the research by Human Rights groups you can find on Google (like Amnesty international) puts the UAE well down the list for human rights abuse. The worst culprits are virtually always the usual suspects Russia, China, USA, Turkey, Syria, Libya, Egypt, Saudi, North Korea and lots of small African countries. For example the death penalty is incredibly rare in Abu Dhabi compared to China, Russia, and the USA. The UK and even Australia have also been lambasted by Amnesty in recent years. The main reason Abu Dhabi (as opposed to the entire UAE) has been targeted by the media trolls in recent years is so they can attack City.Looks like this was published in 1999 - hardly up to date.
