Extreme Away Days

Manchester derby F.A cup game in the 80’s at the swamp. My mate got me a ticket (he’s a red) and I was just in my teens and went on my own. Bloody ticket was for the Stretford End and I had my City scarf and hat on. Verardi had a perfectly good goal disallowed and we lost 1 nil. I took some serious abuse from the reds around me then got on the wrong train to go home. Very long day!

Remember that game. We battered em and should have won. We had all the paddock and K Stand. Must have been one of our biggest away followings ever that one. A fairly large group of rags were sat in K stand and it kicked off right above us.

Yes went to that too, more shite just less wet ;)
Also went to both of them games at Brighton. Remember the first game when it poured down there only being about 300 blues there and sheltering in the toilets before the game because the rain was so bad. Coming back on the train everybody drying their clothes as everyone was soaked to the skin. Went back to Brighton at the end of the season to see us win 1-0 with almost the last kick of the match, we had to win to stay up, unfortunately as we all now know we went down the week later against Luton Town. Good old City always letting us down in them days, thankfully letting City fans down these days isn’t the norm.

best brawl seen between city fans: West Brom (1988/89) Frankenstein vs Newcastle Brown bottle vs paddling pool (amongst others)

I've got it in my head that the West Brom game was 87/88, my old fella got arrested along with two of his mates, There was a load of lumber. I could still be wrong but I just remember me being 16 and that would be right with that year.

If it was definitely the inflatables season 88/89 - Brian Gayle "lost the ball in the floodlights" for the only goal.

Went to West Ham away on me and my birds (ex) anniversary...was extreme seeing her when i got home.

So many but one that sticks in my mine was Blackpool away in the Cup 84

Was living in Liverpool and on the Friday took me bird out to local Bootle boozers with a view to dumping my car and getting a taxi home when I was pissed. Some scrotes sussed me out as a Manc and followed me to another pub but left when they saw the size of the mates I was meeting.
Unfortunately when I came out at the end of the night my car had been smashed to fook by the scrotes, no windows, tyres slashed and every panel kicked in.
My brother came to meet me in Liverpool on the Sat morning as planned so we decided to go by train.
On entry to the ground the cops discovered a load of food cans in my bag that my mum had sent me via my brother so took me into a van to ask why I had them and suggested I was going to throw them on the pitch.I protested, they relented and let me go into the ground with the words " if we see them on the pitch you will be wearing them tonight".
Game was a disaster, lost 2-1.
At the train station the cops decided to control us by using horses to get all the City fans in line against a wall and it was at this point that a horse sneezed and in doing so knocked out my brother as its head hit his. When my brother came round he had loads of horse snot all over his head.
On the way back we stopped at Wigan, cleaned him up and had a great night with the women of the town.
It was better when we were shit ;)

Aged 17, Brighton away late December 1979 got the National Express from Stafford area after thumbing it there on Friday night to London Victoria then jibbed the train to Brighton got off at Preston Park, stop before to avoid ticket detection but had to raise a few quid among fellow Blues to pay for our train ticket.Lost 4-1 Stuart Lee scored for City in a dire display, got the coach back from Victoria, the weather turned very cold and the coach driver forced us off at Stafford at about 4 am and the snow was very deep in the ground, ended up walking to a police station where they got a mate out of bed to deposit our train fare with the local police station in Eccles, before allowing us to complete our train journey to Piccadilly station, got home and watched the match again on itvs the big match on Sunday.Copper at Stafford police couldn’t believe we had been to a match in Brighton thought it was a local Stoke game !
Things you do when you are young broke and daft following City.

Fullest - West Ham in about 1990. We won 2-1 when Redmond scored with a penalty despite slipping on his arse whilst taking it ! The away end was dangerously overcrowded and it was mental when we scored the late winner. One girl near me got a bit trampled but a few of us managed to keep her on her feet so she didn't get totally crushed.

Emptiest - Same as Lancs Blue above, Chelsea on that Monday night. It also ranks as one of the coldest. We had to drive back through freezing fog, took about 10 hours to get home with all the speeding restrictions and due to the dangerous roads.

Furthest - Bodo Glimt circa 95. Traveled into the Arctic Circle to watch us lose 5-0 to a bunch of fishermen ! Great trip though.

Closest - For me it is Bury, so the game there in 97/98. Drew 1-1. Poor game but the ground was packed with Blues and it was good to walk to a City away game.

Scariest - Millwall away 98/99. Anyone who was there would know why. Most horrible atmosphere I have ever experienced.

1st - Leicester first game of 76/77. I was only 5 so don't remember much about the game but I remember being excited about it. I enjoyed waving at all the other City fans on the motorway on the way down.

Most enjoyable - Bit leftfield but the FA Cup win at QPR in 93. I loved that day. QPR was one of my favourite away days and that day went perfectly. Got there early and drinking in various pubs around the area, fantastic atmosphere in the away end. They were a very good side in those days with a great home record but we were excellent and Whitey smashed in the winner at our end, cue bedlam. Great day.

Worst - A lot to choose from ! 1-4 at Lincoln was bad but I was too pissed to remember much of it.0-5 at the swamp was hard to take. I think for me though it was 0-4 at Palace in the League Cup quarter final in 94/95. Hard to believe now but we were all getting a bit giddy about potentially reaching the semi finals of a Cup and we were dreadful that night. I think it was the night Stevie Lomas nearly died swallowing his tongue. Horrible journey home from Selhurst on a week night as well. Quite a bit of mither at that game too, with some Blues fighting amongst each other.

Bollox to your fullest - York away - we were crammed in there, over 66,500 of us on that small bloody terrace.....
