Peter Mandelson is rushing to force the Digital Economy Bill into law before the General Election.

The draconian law is opposed by industry experts, internet service providers (like TalkTalk and BT), web giants including Google, Yahoo and Ebay and even the British Library. Despite all this opposition, the Government is trying to rush it through quietly just before the election without proper debate – without a chance for us to voice our opposition.

The government didn't ban cheap imports when it was threatening industrial work (Very general I know), why are they introducing legislation to protect the music industry? Free market when it suits the suits, state control when it doesn't.

What's the election for then ?

You are quite correct , it's all driven by the music industry and it all has the feel of King Canute.
Let's face it proper serious musicians play music for the art and not money , if an artist cant make a living on performing live then they are in the wrong business.

Fir me this is a huge issue , not because I download music because I never do but if Pete thinks he can police the internet then he is seriously deluded.
I dont mind him BTW as I like new Labour

The UN should pass a resolution that the Internet stays free from government intervention with regards access to material.

It's the last genuinely free place in the world. It's brilliant.
