Not quite true. He lost it because Michael Masi the race director didn’t know the back marker unlapping rules and basically made it up as he was going along. Masi was quietly sacked for it.Hamilton lost the title because of it

It’s why it’s not very often that you get leaders edging out massive leads anymore. Back in the day you’d see the likes of Schumacher having a 1 min lead and obliterating the rest of the field.
With safety cars being very common now you don’t see it very much, no point risking over driving and fucking your tyres when a massive lead is easily wiped out.
