F1 Season 2020.

I remember when the FIA/F1 stopped Hamilton winning the title in his debut season in the 2007 finale. Mysterious gearbox issues that ended his championship chances... Car worked fine after that strangely.

If Russell is winning expect something similar to happen.

That could be something as simple as a sensor failing (causing the issue) software reboot to say ignore that particular sensors readings from now on and the gearbox works fine again. The time lost will be the programmer either on circuit or back at base who has to load up the new remap.

Or it could be the Ferrari International Assistance or FIA for short.

It wasn't a bad look for the sport when Max did it in 25 races at 18 (with only a handful of points) in an arguably better Redbull than he's driving this season.

I would wager George getting a win would bring more fans to the sport not alienate or disappoint existing ones.

I agree it could make non fans think "it's just the car" though.

Max started in Torro Rosso and got plenty of points and then improved like we all expected when he went to Red Bull, I don't think there's anything comparable to the 2 scenarios.

Everyone knows the constructors play a massive part, it's why there's a constructors championship, but it's a bad look if someone can be the fastest on the grid in 1 car and not even manage 1 point in 36 races in another.

Your asking a 21 year old in the worst car package in the last two seasons F1 to somehow have amassed some points by gaining a minimum of 9 places (based on overall pace, not qualifying) just to score one point.

If Russell was in the Alpha Tauri then I am sure he would have a points haul comparable to Max's before his first goes in the Red Bull and therefore seeing him perform well in the Merc wouldn't be such a great suprise.

If I remember rightly Russell had the overall lap record at Hungary until this year whilst testing a few years ago for Mercedes.

If he gets on the podium, the car will be a huge factor but he will still get my driver of the day vote.

No you wasn't. You thought you'd make as sly comment and hope I didn't notice but l did.
Do I get an apology for you trying to label me a racist?
I'm more than happy to apologise for any offence caused.

That's a bit unfair on him, he's consistently made Q2 this season in a car that usually finishes at the wrong end of the race, his team mate has rarely made Q2. The car is not good enough in a race, but he's good enough to get it as high as he can.

He's a great driver imho, and he's still learning his game, I'd be amazed if he won on Sunday, but he should get points, and might get a podium, I'm really looking forward to watching how he does in a top car.

We're talking about a sport where Alex Albon gets a seat over Sergio Perez, so people should just celebrate the feel good moments when they come, which Russell getting a chance to prove himself and Aitken getting a shot in F1 this weekend are.

This qualifying session will be worth a watch this afternoon. The short lap they are doing on this lay out means there will be a lot of traffic to get through whilst trying to do a flying lap, there won’t be much difference in times between pole and the rest of field. Someone from left field has a chance of getting on the front row of the grid.

You have to give them credit this season in F1, even though Mercedes have run away with it, going to tracks not normally on the calendar it’s produced some interesting races.
