Lewis missed the apex of the corner, had that not been the case I think there would have been a lesser or no punishment. Max still could and indeed should have avoided the collision, especially given the consequences.
As @tolmie's hairdoo said, it makes for a more interesting title race.

There's plenty of images that back this statement up where Lewis is clearly understeering into Max's car. When he overtook Leclerc he was much closer to the apex.

'Car 44 was on a line that did not reach the apex of the corner' is the crucial line in that statement.

Very interesting and I probably agree, especially in light of the stance of the stewards this season, Max still should been smarter.

Although I think it's a smidge unfair to pin it all on the Verstappen fans. Yeah they hate him and there are probably a lot of them doing it but we all know the Hamilton hate goes way, way beyond Verstappen. It's the same kind of energy that we see in the Sterling hate.

True, let's just say they've lost their shit today because their favourite got what he deserved and the usual suspects have jumped on the bandwagon.

I love how you can take out your championship rival and be given a slap on the wrist that then leaves you to win the race against a much slower car.
This sport is turning into an utter travesty.
 
I had 3 years away from watching F1 due to the favouritism, thought I'd give it a go again this year, but looks like I'm going back to indycar.
