FA Cup 2023-24

FA Cup 1st Round started last night. Walsall won 4-1 at Sheppey, but the surprise was at Oakwell where Horsham of the Isthmian League Premier drew 3-3 with Barnsley.
FA Cup Twitter may a great play about the replay but the replies were all about the FA planning to scrap replays, and having to get from Horsham (in Sussex) to Barnsley on a Friday night.
Hopefully Peterborough will beat GNIAC's Salford this afternoon.

I spent my teen years in Horsham after my Dad moved down to Gatwick airport from Manchester. A great result away to Barnsley. About 100 places between them. It wasn't on TV yet was moved to a Friday night which is a joke, it meant nowhere near as many went up as possibly good have. Glad they've got a replay to make some money from. Got a great sense of humour the fans, who call themselves the lardy army.

"Give me lard in my heart keep me Horsham...no surrender, no surrender, no surrender to the low fat spread"

No idea why or where it came from but it's excellent.

I love the FA Cup. Takes me right back to a simpler time. Gave the same hope every season that City might be able to go and win something. We haven't won it enough since the takeover for me, but I suppose I can take the league titles, league cups and CL! Beating the rags in the final was just poetry.

Aldershot were 7-0 up at on point and 3-0 up after 9 minutes. That is a shocker for a home team against non league opposition. Bloke I know goes home and away without fail and I bet he’s fucking livid
My pal was pretty sanguine about it as though the three in nine and four by HT, let alone seven without reply didn’t come as a shock. They’ll be laughing their cocks off in Oxford!

They are a poor side even with an ageing Charlie Austin up front and the crowds are awful. The Stratton bank which was always the away end is always empty nowadays. To think they were once premier league. The West Country is never going to have a team in the Premier League again as the closest thing they have is Bristol City with the Lansdowns as owners who are reluctant to put any money into the team hence Pearson being unable to get them anywhere near it

Another team who are down in the dumps but who, in their turn, beat us. I seem to recall that it was Swindon at Maine Road that recorded the lowest ever attendance. Naturally, I witnessed that game.

What? Worse than Fulham’s away support? :-)
Difficult to see how many of the paltry crowd were Swindon fans 'cos there was no segregation then. You just turned up, paid yer shilling and got in where yer wanted. I think Wigan hold the record for the most laughable away support at the Etihad, and when you factor in the massive distance these people have to travel from Wigan Wallgate to Victoria they are clearly seasoned travellers.
