FA Cup 5th round draw - Huddersfield Town (Away)

Huddersfield fan here in peace...
Think it's a good draw for us, gives us an idea of where we'll need to improve if we defy the so-called experts and get promoted. A shame Mooy can't play, as he's been a big part of our success this season and it sounds like plenty of you guys would like to see him in action. In the two previous cup games he's been on the bench and on in the second half. I imagine Wagner will pick a strong side but he tends to rotate regularly anyway regardless of the opposition. For the Rochdale game there was only one player with no league starts and that was Collin Quaner who we didn't sign in time for the Ipswich game, so while he did make a few changes it wasn't a second-string side really, other than Coleman in goal who many fans rate higher than Danny Ward anyway.
I expect you'll be given the whole of the South Stand end, which was originally meant to be the away end when the stadium was built but a good third of it has become the singing section for most games this season, another factor in our success this time out. It technically holds just over 4k but is usually limited to approximately 3,800 or so.
Presumably Pep will have one eye on your European Cup game but I'd expect the side you put out to still be strong. I can see us pulling off a shock but I can just as easily see us being humiliated, hopefully not to the extremes of the 10-1 which thankfully was before my time!
I don't expect the egg-chasers to have too much of a negative effect on the pitch, especially not the way they played last season!

As for pubs before the game, the two at the station aren't normally set aside for home or away fans, and you'll be fine as long as you behave- they do get pretty crowded though, especially with the bumper crowds (for little old Huddersfield) we've been getting this season. The Cherry Tree (Wetherspoons) just down John William Street from the station is often recommended for visiting fans, the clientele there and at the branch of Paddy Power next door aren't our finest residents though!

So, good luck and all that, but don't take us for granted! ;)

Also with regard to "firms", I thought we'd all left that nonsense behind in the 1980s, all you get now is a bunch of spoiled teenagers who watched The Football Factory and think it's glamourous to kick seven bells out of each other. We have our handful of knobheads as no doubt you do too, but the vast majority just want to enjoy a game of football... and given the dross we had to watch under Robins and Powell, I can't see why anyone would want the distraction of a fight now that we've got a decent side!
Hi mate, thanks for the post!

I think it's safe to say that we're happy with the draw, from a piss-up point of view it's probably the best one we could have hoped for. There's a fair chance we'll win, but even with the squad we have now you can never be certain. We'll be prioritising the champions league game on the Tuesday, I think the FA will schedule this one for the Friday night kick off which should be better for us, if it's Sunday, expect wholescale changes to our side. Will be interesting to see how your lot go about it - if you win it's a real scalp, if you don't you've gone out to one of the favourites so no big deal! I'm hoping the manager will be more bothered about your promotion race and rest a few star players?

All the best!

Being no Huddersfield expert... I was wondering about the pitch quality topic as they are playing Rugby as well on there.

I had to learn they have natural grass reinforced with synthetic fibres:

It's the same surface installed at the Etihad, so it makes it even more a home match at Huddersfield for City and loads of fans. :)
The pitch shouldn't be an issue then, as the peaceful Huddersfield lad also said.

For those interested here is a video about the technical installation of the system:

Yes the odd rugby league game doesn't mess up a pitch as the players are just running across the surface and tackling without really disturbing the surface. Scrums are seldom contested so you don't see the damage to the pitch you see during Rugby union games.

As you say the synthetic part of the pitch helps its durability.

Ah thanks, good to know.

The Beautiful South were supporting them. Mrs Stony and I really wanted to go to that, but work commitments and finding a babysitter proved too large an obstacle.
If memory serves me right I think terrorvision also played. Let's hope for another good evening in Huddersfield

City have been drawn away for six successive FA Cup ties:

Norwich, Villa, Chelsea, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Huddersfield. The odds of that happened are around 1.7% or 98.3% against.

Five of the six were against PL opposition and the last one against a top-six Championship team. The odds against that happening are also very slim at around 0.05%.

The odds in totality of that run of draws is practically off the scale.

Every match in that sequence has been won big so far by scores 3-0 to 5-0 apart from the Chelsea match where City's Youth team lost 5-1. We all know why MP played a weakened side last year because of the scheduling by the FA.

My Mrs is a Blackburn fan and their game against the rags has already been confirmed for the Sunday. Has anyone any idea when our kick off time will be confirmed?
