It's not a matter of picking and choosing games though is it. I went to West Ham and have built up just Shy of 14,000 points over the years. How many of the away allocation that will be at Huddersfield can say that they have that number of points?
I'm gutted, supporters clubs are taking the piss, and before you mark me down as a moaner, how many supporters club members pick and choose what games they go to, THEY DON'T HAVE TO, THEY JUST JUMP ON BOARD WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT AND DENY LONG STANDING SEASON TICKET HOLDERS LIKE MYSELF AND MANY HUNDRED OTHERS.
It's always the same, people miss out, and they start blaming supporters clubs and corporate sales. I've had a season ticket since 1974 when I first started going to watch City aged 10. I've got just short of 14000 loyalty points and just missed out on this one. I don't do many away games, I make 6 or 7 a year maybe. If I'd gone to every game I wanted, I'd be on 25000 points or more now, and some fans are on that number and way more. I'm a member of a supporters club, not to get tickets and travel to every game, but for the ease and convenience of travel to home games on their bus, and a cheap drink before. My ticket has never been used for somebody else not entitles at the club. If my mates and I do an away, we tend to go under our own steam and get tickets by ourselves, why?, because the club had 300 members ish, with plenty of members have ridiculous amounts of points, and who get first dibs, because they go to every game, and always have done. The new joiners with a lot less points build theirs up by having season tickets and being on cup schemes, and going to every home game they can, plus the odd away, not by getting tickets before being eligible, because they are members of the club.
There's been away games when the club received 2 tickets, and at all away games, most travellers from the club get their own tickets, because the club only gets a small allocation, unless it's Wembley or somewhere else where the allocation is many more than the norm.
And yes, some do pick and chose their games, but they are still eligible.
An ex player lives across the road from me, who, as an ex player, can get tickets for games, but not any or every game. He's asked for me on the odd occasion, but more often than not, he's told no because they're aren't enough to go round.
I've done corporate recently at Liverpool, sat with them lot of moaning cnuts, it wasn't one of our tickets, but theirs, but we kick off when there's an away fan sat in our end.
I've got an offer of a ticket in the Huddersfield end through somebody at work, sat with them because the seat next to him will be empty, will I go? not sure, because I wanted to go with 4 of my mates, all of which are supporters club members and season ticket holders, and been going watching City for ever. We all missed out on this one.
If you look at our corporate box's at the Etihad, they are only 50% full most games. They are entitled to tickets for away games, but the vast majority don't take them up, because they are wealthy or business owners, who are too busy to travel to away games. Whatever is skimmed off for players, staff, bla, bla, bla is pretty small, as is the number of tickets going to low point holders at supporters clubs, or people who know somebody who knows somebody somewhere with access to a ticket.
I'd bet anybody would take a ticket if it was offered when not eligable, me included. There are many more ways of acquiring tickets for games which are sold out, or likely too very quickly, than jumping on the supporter club or corporate excuse.
The top and bottom of it is, there are thousands of long standing fans out there, both members and non members of supporters clubs who have way more points than me or thee. Even younger fans in their 20's and 30's have more points than me and go to every game..!
That's just it, they've gone to every possible game over the years and now reap their reward,
They travel from all over the country, and abroad, a high percentage of our fan base lives outside of Manchester (before we moved to the Etihad, 35% of them lived in the South East FFS, as told by Dennis Tueart at a supporters club meeting in 2001...!).
The fan base grows daily, as the stadium expands and more new fans jump on the band waggon, the demand will grow, ways and means of getting tickets before those entitled will grow, that's why the Rags have such a problem with allocations, that, and they are a shower of shite causing problems at away games, their allocations have been cut and they've had to introduce measures to deal with the problem, ie, collection of tickets at away locations, so that they get their full allocations again.
It's undoubtedly coming to us, because demand grows for tickets, but don't kid yourselves that hundreds of tickets are being skimmed off by supporters clubs and corporate. It's just that there are several thousand fans with more points than many of us..
