FA Cup - Blackburn post match thread

Firstly well played to Blackburn who put up more of a fight than Norwich, West Ham, Spurs and United ( until we declared with 25 minutes still to go !).

Decent and solid performances from everyone I thought, although perhaps Nastasic was a little ring rusty.

Difficult to pick a man of the match from Navas or Milner.

As for Dzeko; he got stick from the commentary team on TV but if you don't buy a ticket you can't win the raffle. The shot that went way over the bar was worth a punt as nothing else was on and it was his movement and wonderful ball out wide that set Navas off for the first goal, he laid the goal on for Kun and two more sublime finishes.

Strange question I know but was just curious as to why the game kicked off at 20:10?

Never seen that ko time before.

Could have been a civil war if they`d have knocked Corrie off tonight.

-- Thu Jan 16, 2014 1:15 am --

I actually thought that was a wind up.

No way he got moved out the way for Corrie haha

Great performance in terrible weather. So impressed with our desire to entertain the crowd by going for more goals. A lot of teams would've settled for 2-0. We were utterly ruthless and that's the sign of champions. One worry I have is Clichys defending, there was two occasions he lost his man and we nearly paid for it. Now seeing why he's lost his place. Still a good player mind you but his concentration had been poor at times.

two strikers system working really well at home for us. I was sceptical before not anymore. Dzeko with a good assist and two goals. Negredo bang on for goals at the etihad, important goals too. Aguero never looked like he was away.

Only worry is if Richards would ever stay healthy. Garcia is ok for a two man midfield but better in three. Pants was assured although never really troubled. I like his quick releases though. Navas devastating on the right. Let's keep him there. I was hoping Milner scored that free kick. Great professional for the club.

Glad he didn't score as I had £10 on 5-0 at 10-1

Only one problem, which strikers start against Cardiff?

Easy Sergio and the beast

and I am a massive Edin fan but the fact is the other two are our most clinical strikers

then bring Edin on for sergio on the hour mark
this gives Sergio a good run out and Edin chance to grab one or two as cardiff tire

1st half performance was as poor as the weather and it reflected on the ones who did take the trouble to go to Eastlands. But with at least 5 that kept working for the goal to turn the performance around. When it happened that was no stopping us. Rovers did well the 1st half and could easily have snatched a goal themselves with us being 2 up, a goal they probably deserved. But when we score 5 without playing well at all with loads of regulars missing in piss-poor weather and a half empty stadium ... mhm.
Best moments were the Aguero-goal after his 1st touch and the introduction of young Huws.

Back 4 did very little to convince Pellegrini one of them should be ahead of Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis and Kolarov.
Nastasic at tiomes looked a bit frustrated or he wanted to try too hard. I hope he picks up his form from last season when he was massive. Maybe Pellegrini shoudl have a few quiet words with the lad.
Richards looked rusty again. I don't want to judge him now after so many injuries, but he needs to play a streak of games and up his performance to convince me we should keep him at the club. I really hope he does pick up.
Clichy has run into the same problem as at Arsenal now we play a much more attacking style. He seems to lose confidence if there's no back up and he prefers to defend in a tighter space than burst foreward. As for Kolarov, the style seems to suite him perfectly and he loves making clever runs putting in razorsharp crosses.
Lescott again is simply a great defender, but on the ball he definitely lacks quality that is so much needed in the style Pellegrini wants us to play. Nothing wrong with his mentality, but he is not good enough. Unfortunately.

just a joy to watch.....make sure appreciate these games blues as im sure there will be times in the future when we're not so prolific....its just incredible to watch a team who can score like this one can, even with an entirely second string midfield in the second half....buzzing about the fact that jovetic is on his way back in to the fold too....i just hope he can stay fit until the end of the season and hit the ground running.

ive not ben Edins biggest fan in the past, but he's finishing as well know as he ever has and needs to be given minutes even with Aquero back, thanksfully there are plenty of games coming up! I really hope he doesnt move on in the summer.

Trying not to be OTT but I believe we are the best British club side I have ever seen at the age of 56. We are plying better now than the rags or arse ever were.

Side note' Andy Bell end on ITV "great pairings like Persie and Roony " LOL

The best British club side I've ever seen was the Liverpool of Beardsley, Barnes, Houghton, and Aldridge.

To my mind we're not close to them yet BUT can legitimately be mentioned in the same sentence and might yet rival them if this team continues to gel and improve.

This is dreamland. We're actually living in dreamland!!
