FA Cup Final loss in 1981 or Luton 83?

Think Dennis Tueart spoke for us all when he twatted Brian Horton in the tunnel after the Luton game.
That was and will always be my worst moment, though I hate spuds and their, big headed for no reason whatsoever shitehawk supporters, and probably because of 81.
Wigan pissed me off before 2013 as they always seemed to get a result against us the final defeat made the dislike even more. They still whinge to this day about the Goat scoring the play off semi final winner.
Reading Horton’s book atm on holiday, and he references that moment. Apparently, Tueart was only getting another contract if we stayed up, and frustration got the better of him.

Both hit me hard as a 9 then an 11 year old. The latter I found almost incomprehensible. However it is the fact that relegation can be remedied with promotion which renders 1983 to the history books. Losing an FA cup final and then winning NOTHING for a further 30 years hurt a lot more in the long run. To some degree the 2011 victory finally put 1981 to bed, however part of me will never feel fully vindicated until we meet Spurs in a final and BEAT the southern b@st@rds!!

Losing to Spurs was hard, especially after we should have won the first game. But come August and the new season and signing Trevor Francis and Martin O' Neill it was largely forgotten about apart from the TV showing that goal every time we played Spurs or a Cup game
.
But Luton was a disaster for the club. And come August the fixture list came out and it was Cambridge, Grimsby, Oldham, Notts County and Carlisle. Clubs that at some point since have been or still are in the 5th tier.
And for Francis and O' Neill in 81, swap them with Duncan Davidson and Gordon Dalziel in 83.
Not to mention the ‘one game’ wonder Dominic Sullivan. How poor was he?789E605B-BD2A-4628-A7E2-B1FE3059ECBE.jpeg

Ha! Can't believe he was there long enough for a picture to be taken.
I saw his one and only.game at Torquay and thought he was OK- but then again we were playing Torquay!
One of Billy McNeill 10 Scottish signings / loanees
If you look at his Wikipedia entry, it doesn’t even mention City as one of his clubs… easily forgotten!

81 was far worse for me , 2 long coach journeys in 6 days, had mither on the Saturday and missed 20 mins of the game in St johns , then stuck in car park for about 2hours on the Thursday whilst having to listen to the radio report.
Luton was a shit season not just a shit game, plus I got on the pitch from the Kippax and got a lump of the pitch, thats still in my parent's garden to this day (so my dad tells me). Stoke in 98 was probably worse than Luton for me, especially after the game.

We have beaten Spurs in a final, 2021 League Cup, admittedly with limited fans due to Covid. A year that ends in a one when Spurs didn't win!

I think hindsight rears its ugly head with this one but it’s fascinating to read everyone’s perspective.
For me I somehow didnt expect to beat Spurs - maybe Cityitis and it wasn’t that long after our Golden period.
Luton I never expected us to lose that last game and still remember the feeling afterwards.
Both shit times but Luton edges it for me.

Yes, I should have been more explicit, we have to beat them in a FA Cup Final to fully exorcise 1981. I remember a few years ago both clubs got to the quarter final stages and I was thinking it’s on! The opportunity to fully compensate for what I experienced as a 9 year old nearly happened then. A league cup final only partially helps.
