We ve been poor first half and unlucky second half (Haaland and Alvarez chances + many dangerous cut backs inside penalty area, Foden unlucky once for instance whats been a great chance). Its been a really strong game from us second half.
People says it does not matter how game pan out and whether we dominated or no. It absolutely matters. In football, luckily, you may play best football in the world and loose particular game. But long term its how games pan out is what really shows you where is team overally. Following the Treble season, we have been at quicksand, but we delivered Premier League. We would have a great chance for unthinkable had we gotten through Real Madrid. With second treble at the line I have a feeling things could have been a little different against United. But in my book in tie against Real we proofed we are the best team in the world, cause we were better.
Game against United does not change it. United broke few times and capitalize on our mistakes: Luton can do it, Celtic against prime Barcelona can do it, shit simply happens.
Yet its plain to see, that many our players were poorer this season than last (Bernardo, Stones, Grealish, Haaland, KDB, Dias) for various reasons, mainly injuries. Still not really horrific: KDB since return have great stats, yet had to be substituted all the time cause has not been fully ready fitness wise. Bernardo got us a few important goals (smart first goal at Bernabeu, Chelsea FA Cup), Grealish is suited for Citys ball, shame he just do not have numbers (shots blocked ratio must be some kind of record). Thats why this season been a bit underwhelming in terms of record against top teams.
Probably too harsh on Kovacic, hes fighter and a very good player, but hes not world class player offensively. The difference against Gundogan is obvious (not only numbers, but decisions/ability to switch play/reception of the ball with turnover etc). In games against low blocks, which are like almost 100% of our games these days, world class „8” with sense for a goal is crucial. I hoped for more from Nunes in this regard than Kovacic anyway.
Feel for supporters, who spent a little fortune on a trip to Wembley. You heroes guys, we go again next season!
