FA Cup QF Draw | Newcastle (H) | Sat 16 Mar 17:30

I’m sure you’re right. The only possible reason I think they’d be even considering lunchtime, is if plod were kicking up a fuss.

But they were happy for the league game to be 8 pm on a Saturday, so even with increased away fans, I can’t see that really being an issue.
Newcastle have had a few 8.00 kick offs, including London last week, maybe they are kicking up a fuss, wouldn't blame them.

Agree completely, but one thing I would add is that both City and Newcastle fans had at least a month to organise their travel for the 8pm kick off in August.
Similarly, I'm a cricket umpire and I remember comparing the cricket/football fixtures and calculating whether I'd be able to do both on the same day.

This time, the game is only a fortnight away and it's still not been announced.

I think 5.30pm would be great for both sets of fans and make for a rocking atmosphere. Plenty of time for a few beers and a train back (assuming no strikes). Also a decent time for most overseas TV audiences

And this is the problem because if GMP were insistent that they didn't want late ko on Saturday what could the broadcasters do as rags have to be on the Sunday. There isn't a cat in hells chance both games could be on the same day even though it's happened previously. It would leave TV in a pickle but we all know that money rules the game. Stupid TV blackout doesn't help especially for this round as there are only two games kicking off at 3.00, Burnley v Brentford and Luton v Nottingham Forest. A combined attendance of circa 30k if that!

Rightly or wrongly, the principles behind the TV blackout are more to do with lower leagues than the top flIght. Only two PL games at 3pm on this occasion doesn’t really impact the arguments for and against it.
