Mendy isn't a bad defender. As long as he's anywhere near close to fit I can't see him being a problem player.

Although expect the odd issue due to solely how long he's been out.

He is, we just set up well to cover for it.

He isn't. You ask a defender to play in the opposition third and get an assist a game and they'll leave space to get attacked, it's physically impossible not to.

He had 1 or 2 games where he looked a bit slow and heavy footed when coming back from injury and people have decided he can't defend. It's bollocks. Guardiola didn't spend £52m on a left back who only participates going forward.

Even when in position to defend, he’s left a lot to be desired. As has Zinchenko, though he’s improved considerably. Delph’s been poor. I don’t think any of our left backs are good at defending. Mendy is the best at attacking outside, Zinchenko is the best at attacking inside. So the decision on who to play (if they are ever all fit at the same time) rests more on their offensive qualities than defensive ones, as none of them inspire any confidence in that regard. Having Laporte to cover behind them on his natural side is a blessing.
