Coentrao hands out punishment.

While discussing Pepe, City may make a polite enquiry about Madrid left back Fabio Coentrao, who could be sold by the Spaniards after barely playing for them in pre-season.

With Juventus still interested in Aleks Kolarov, and said to be preparing a £7million bid, it could represent smart business for the Blues if they could nick Portugal ace Coentrao and sell Kolarov – although they value the Serb at twice Juve’s proposed price.

So the Kolarov offer has now fallen to 7m.......I still maintain we'd be lucky to get 5.
However,if we can get this lad as his replacement,on probably a slightly lower wage,we will have pulled off a masterstroke

Don't get this at all, he's just like Kolarov but faster, worse in the air and doesn't score from free-kicks. Therefore the only benefit we're getting is a pacey left back, but we've already got one of those, and he can actually defend.

He is nothing like Kolarov, at all

Other than being a left-sided wing back who likes to get forward, has been criticised for his defensive abilities and is second choice at his current Champions League playing club?

So we're going to complete ignore the way he plays and categorise all players simply by whether they are attacking or defensive fullbacks and whether they are first or second choice at their clubs? Sounds smart. Or, we could be radical and actually watch players and base our opinions on the way they actually play.

Coentrao is not remotely like Kolarov, he doesn't play in the same way at all. The comparisson it completely non-existant. Kolarov is incapable of moving with the ball, he can only cross the ball, shoot or do a Ronaldo chop before passing it backwards. Coentrao on the other hand plays like an actual attacking player, able to dribble, make overlapping runs, exchange one-twos and pick a pass. Not to mention that he is actually very good defensively, despite the bizarre perception that seems to go around that he isn't. They are completely different types of players

no but as a fullback it would help a bit if he could fucking defend well
