As far as I am concerned the whole so-called "sportswashing" narrative is fake news. It is not based on any evidence. Sheikh Mansour did not buy City to "wash-away" stories about human rights issues in Abu Dhabi and no one has ever published anything to back up that conspiracy theory. Our owner invests billions of pounds in the technology, sport, health, education, and finance sectors each year. The motive is to make a profit on his investments and also reduce his business group's over-reliance on dwindling oil revenues.
It is a strategy followed by the entire business comunity in Abu Dhabi because the value of oil will continue to drop as more renewable energies come in across the world. This is why Dubai moved into the tourism sector.
It would make no sense to purchase a football club if you wanted to "wash away" bad publicity because being in football guaraantees you more scrutiny than any other sector.
The concept of "sportswashing" was made up by elements of the media to back up the false narrative and has been pushed relentlessly by trolls like Nick McGeehan who have their own motives for pursuing this.
