Facial recognition.

They are deleted. It scans against a set of pre determined people who will be wanted for crimes, on warrant, or missing. No data is saved

You cannot trust them Wally ...... that's just their 'line' to stop you from asking further questions, and digging any deeper as to the real reasons for this equiment being put to use ..... you cannot trust them.

These facial recognition cameras have been running in Croydon, South London for weeks now .... all mounted up high on poles by stealth .... and all linked to the phones that coppers 'on the street' below carry.

If you’ve never been arrested, they haven’t got a photo of you. If they haven’t got a photo of you they’ve nothing to compare it to in the event they obtain an image from a crime that has occurred. Chill. If you have been arrested and continue to commit crimes then that’s your look out. A face covering renders the whole process impotent. It’s an absolutely pointless idea.
I'll bet the coppers can get a photo of your driving licence up on their computer systems ... with a nice photo of you on it.

We are all fucked this country has gone to the dogs and over the next 5-10 years we shall see a massive change glad I’m a foc

But that's a completely diiferent issue.

Their faces are on file for a reason and the police have seen fit to choose an area where it may be considered effective either as a deterrent or in actually catching someone.
How are they going to catch someone? They have advertised where they will be and on what days they will be there, so surely anyone who os wanted will avoid Sale on said days

They could but that’s too speculative which they’re not allowed to do. This is from Gov.uk……

“Existing safeguards require checks only to be done against police watchlists of wanted criminals, suspects and those subject to bail or court order conditions like sex offenders. Watchlists are bespoke to every deployment, with officers following strict guidance from the College of Policing guidance when composing a list.”

Wow. Fourth highest in a tiny country like ours. We must have the most surveillance by square mile if that's true.

Maybe an having an authoritian government would remind us what privacy actually means. A bit like in Germany where they had to learn the hard way and now have all sorts of rules on not filming people in public places etc.
The good news is, that because Government is actually mainly run by idiots, they save money by having shit CCTV so most of the images are unrecognisable!

So it's only being used to identify and track known/wanted criminals that feature on the police database.

Surely by making such an overt and well publicised display of deploying it renders it completely useless in that case?
