I'm a red (hang on, don't stop reading there) and I flew to Timisoara last year on the way back from the final in Rome.
Don't be put off by the horror stories, it's an amazing city and I'm actually really jealous that you lot get to go there and we don't!
First thing's first, it's a 10-minute taxi ride into the airport.
The airport is small with one terminal and you'll have no problem getting a taxi outside.
The currency is Romanian Lei and it was absolutely dirt cheap when we were there.
I think we were paying about 75p a pint even in the nicest bars in town and food is really cheap too.
We stayed at the Hotel Ramina which is about five minutes in a taxi from the airport and a 10-minute taxi into town (from memory, I think the taxi cost about £1.50 into town).
(The taxi driver from the airport was so grateful for the fare that he got up at 4am to drive 80 miles from his home town to take us back to the airport when we left.)
The rooms at the Ramina have ridiculously cheap minibars and they have wall-mounted TVs showing Sky.
In town, there's a casino, loads of nice restaurants and an Irish bar called (imaginitely) the Irish Public House. The staff were really friendly...they gave us the TV remote so we could watch the FA Cup final on the TV.
Two of us were in there all day and spent about £10 on about eight rounds.
We caught Timisoara at its best as there was some kind of traditional dance festival on, but you'll miss out on that.
Fans of both the city's teams are quality though - very friendly and welcoming. FC Timisoara had to fight hard to overturn a ban on European football a couple of seasons ago and they'll take a big interest in City being in town.
