Favourite first game of the season

I loved Blackburn away 09.

Great ground, first game for big money signings Adebayor, Tevez, Barry, Kolo. Felt like we had a proper team with a genuine chance of being good.

The black kit we played in sticks out as well.

It was just an exciting time, the signings, the Umbro kits, even the shitty doves concert a few weeks earlier in the pissing rain, everything just built up to that first game and we didn’t do a typical city, we felt the real deal.
Is that the one when we scored a last minute winner? Possibly robinho

On the way home from watching the game in the pub and starting to think of which was my favourite first game of the season.

Two spring to mind.

V West Ham. First game under Sven. Sunny day, loads of new players. Played well and won. Was such a change from the dross the previous season we'd endured under Pearce.

V Swansea at home. I think three words sum this game up. Sergio Aguero. WOW. The first 2-3 months of that season were special. The first time I'd seen City with a proper decent team, with a chance to win the title. Not fluke a cup win or sneak past the best teams to win something. We could stand up and say we are the best team in the country. This game was start of all that.

If pushed to choose I'd go with the Swansea game. Maybe partly because of what came afterwards.

Anyway so what's your favourite first game?

Two very good shouts there mate

A lot of negative stuff about Pearce but he was vey much part of my favourite game on Keegan’s debut. We beat self confessed top dogs Watford.

It was also the best season to watch in my opinion.

Was just about to put this. After the depression of relegation Keegan's appointment was the perfect tonic.

Berkovic and Bernarbia tearing the league to shreds.

Great atmosphere that day. Late ish kick off (I think) meant a few beers in town before. Watford tipped by a few to go up too.

Also a noteworthy fixture as it was Charvet's only good game in a City shirt.

My first thought. I would say the atmosphere that night was slightly ferrel

Thought we would smash that league after that result :))
Yeah...was almost like we refused to accept the possibility losing that day. Genuine goosebumps at the reception we gave the team as they came out; statistically the worst City team in our (then) 104/111/118 year history.

As others have said the 07/08 2-0 over WestHam.. main memory though had been waiting since Anelka for a striker that could consistently bag over 10 a season(I know), thought Bianchi was the one. Were a couple of one season wonders(Fowler and Robinho) but we had to wait until Tevez.

Even Charvet was decent in that game.

Steady now. Haha. Enjoyed that season. Obviously being the best team in the league helped but ITV showed a number of games on terrestrial too in that ill-fated deal. Was certainly more confident of staying up after that season than Royle's back to back team. I loved Keegan and was disappointed when he left but we didn't have a bottomless pit of money that he always seemed to need. Don't think a number of players would have come to us if he wasn't in charge at the time like Anelka.
