Favourite Horror Movies?

Watched The Babadook tonight at the Cinemas.
Can recommend it alot.
Even if you take out the horror element of the film, the whole storyline/acting is superb with the emphasis on the mothers struggle to raise her child quite interesting in itself.
Having not seen an Aussie flick for a while either, this added to the performance and made the film that bit more unique - scaring the shit out of my girlfriend lol.

Glad I chose this over that heavily advertised Oiji board shit.

Cheers.

Any horror movie recommendations?

The Haunting - Original B/W not the shit remake with the welsh tart
The Ring - Japanese original (remake pretty good though)
Night of the Demon
American Werewolf in London
Invasion of the body snatchers - both versions
Village of the Damned - original

The Fog - John Carpenter

Not horror as such but still creepy:

10 Rillington Place
The Vanishing - the original Dutch/French film. Really worth a watch

Just wondering what is everyones favourite horror movies?

As I progress onwards in life I don't like to be scared to much these days. But back when I was a young man the film that I only watched once because it was as scary as shit was "Night Of The Demon".

That film still sends shivers of dread down my spine.

That night of the demon is it the old black and white film, I saw a film in the 90s called night of the demon, it was on the video nasties list, some gory moments in that film including a motorcyclist stopping for a piss in the woods and getting his dick ripped off, the demon in that film is like a Bigfoot type creature. The film is ok ish not one of the best horror films, but I enjoyed it ,not scary just gory.

I've not seen the black and white version, must watch it soon.

I downloaded the changeling the other day, very spooky but the acting is very hammy and in the end it's a bit silly.

I think that the best horror film are the ones where you don't see what it is you're supposed to be sacred of. Blair Witch did this perfectly, as did Paranormal Activity (although they've really rinsed that franchise dry, now). I remember the opening 30 mins of Jeepers Creepers being fantastic, but as soon as you saw the creature it just became stupid.

The Shining also adhered to this rule - although you saw disturbing things, you never quite saw what was all behind it, only the affect it was having on people. I enjoyed The Exorcist but I think it has to be viewed more with consideration of how it what have appeared back when it was released, ie. I wasn't as disturbed when I first saw it a few years ago as I probably would have been had I been around in 1973.

As much as I love Alien I'd probably consider that more of a sci-fi/suspense than a horror.

Honourable mention to Event Horizon. Perhaps a case of the idea being much better than the execution, but still decent nonetheless

I actually thought this was a post i'd written and forgotten about! 100% in agreement with jeepers creepers & the general thought that less is more with horrors

Great film for it's age.

Did you recognize the lines 'it's in the trees, its coming' from the sample at the start of Kate Bush's hounds of love?
