Favourite World Cup?

Although England weren't in it I have to say USA 94. I only vaguely remember Italia 90 but I remember USA 94 as the 1st World Cup I really enjoyed.

Players such as Romario, Bebeto, Taffarel, Dunga, Dino and Roberto Baggio, Marc Overmars, Dennis Bergkamp, Frank and Ronald De Boer, Thomas Brolin, Gheorghe Hagi, Hristo Stoichkov and Maradona.

The goal celebration from Bebeto.

Maradona's celebration into the camera
And subsequent drugs ban!!!
Ireland under Jack Charlton having a decent tournament.
Both Bulgaria and Romania having brilliant tournaments with some top players.
That goal by Saudi Arabia.
Roger Milla playing at 42!!
A talented Colombia side that finished bottom if their group. Also losing to the USA in part due to an own goal by Andres Escobar (who was shot dead only days after they got knocked out)

The kit's and stadiums were fantastic too.

And a missed penalty won it for Brazil. Imagine missing a penalty in a shootout in the biggest sporting event in the world.

1978 Argentina. Scotland's failure and fantastic Holland and the hosts. I was 20.
Best thing was that there were 3 matches some nights starting at about 5, then 7.30, then 10, 0r 11. Went in our social club early doors and stayed late every night. Loads of beer and we were given the keys to lock up when we left. Very happy, bleary-eyed days!

The Paul Gascoigne yellow against Germany.

Pearce penalty against Spain to undo history.

Germany v Brazil 6-1 or whatever score it finished on.

So so many others. I used to love international football more than club football.

Saved me typing the same:-) add Paulo Rossi
Yep, 1978 - the music, the fans and I loved the tops - playing footy in street and being Mario Kempes or Rossie but I really loved the Dutch team and tops with Nesskeens, Johnny Rep and the Van Der Kerkhof's - for me 1978 was best world cup - at that time I played in school team, we won the league and the cup and it was footy everyday. Happy times!

France 98 was a very good World Cup, proper Ronaldo in his prime and expected to sweep all before him. A very good France team eventually winning it, England v Argentina was a titanic game still didn’t understand why Sol Campbell’ goal didn’t stand.
Push from shearer just before it allowing the ball to reach Campbell, from what I remember anyway.

Can still remember at 6 years old being in a huff in my back garden after finding out the fucking Germans had won the World Cup by beating the coolest national side ever in 1974.
Life really didn't seem fair ha
