Favourite World Cup?

amongst the greatest games :

Brazil v italy 82
West Germany v France 82
France v Brazil 86
England v Cameroon 90
England v Argentina 98
Portugal v Spain 18

2002 for me despite the horrible kick off times - we would come back from the pub or nightclub to a party and stay up all night watching games as the sun was coming up
Italia ‘90. This was the first one I really got into. England semi finalists and Ireland getting to the quarters. We’d watch the matches and then go and play out and try to recreate the goals scored. I tried to recreate that Platt goal loads of times! Gazza being Gazza crying and Linekar’s famous ‘have a word with him’ caught on camera. Great times, apart from the Germans of course! I’ve still got the sticker book somewhere, I must find it.
Its also one of the most memorable for me for similar reasons however if you look back at it as a neutral, it was one of the dullest tournaments football wise with alot of negative football being played . I think the lowest scoring WC to this day, with a terrible final game. Didnt they bring in the back pass rule afterwards to prevent time wasting. I think it also set a record for number of extra time and penalty games as well as red cards. They also changed the format from 2 to 3 points due to teams playing for nil nil draws . Still, good times all the same

Ps had the completed sticker book until recently sold on ebay

I think it may be age dependant when people choose their favourite world cups (I'm 52)

Can't decide between Italia 90 and Spain 82

Italia 90 I was 20, loved watching the England matches in the pub, the Madchester era, Gazza-mania, was just a great time to be alive
Spain 82, as a 12 year old, obsessed with the game, some great matches and as others have said, that Brazil team (just wow)

Enjoyed Mexico 86 too

Italia 90 for me. Some say it didn't have loads of goals but it had drama from the off, Cameroon v Argentina. Final was a bit pony compared to 86 but it was an amazing time…..

Good memories of the brilliant Brazil team in Mexico, 1970 and of the games I watched in the U.S. in 1994. Still remember the sense of wonder at being able to see live pictures all the way from Sweden thanks to the miracle of "Eurovision" in 1958. But 1966 has to be the best, above all Florian Albert doing his magic for Hungary v Brazil at Goodison and the crowd shouting his name over & over after the match till he came out to wave and do a lap of honour.
