FC United thread

Sounds like there could be a major "accidental" fire coming in the middle of the night sometime soon followed by a large insurance claim. ;-}

I hope not, all them pallets could burn for weeks.

Well I think we should have a collection for them at the Arsenal match, all it takes is for a few poeple at the end of each row to collect a bucket that is passed around, how much piss does a bucket hold by the way ?

Surely gob would be better than piss. It would be less likely to spill because it would congeal into one lump.

Much do you reckon we should charge them though?

That's a shame, is it "go bump" financial trouble, or "go down a league" financial trouble ?

Go bye bye financial trouble either way, once they lose momentum and the cockroaches following them get disillusioned they're fucked.

Is there going to be a breakaway club ? from the breakaway club, with the possibility of a further breakaway club ?

This could cost us rate payers a f**king fortune.

They have a steady set of volunteers willing to chip in on all fronts, but the commitments (community projects they have received funding for) they have got themselves involved with means they have to employ people to deliver them and employ people to attract funding / manage the funding and manage the club on a day to day basis- and that requires salaries.
One of the members' biggest gripe is the club existed for years with volunteers doing the fundraising, and then Andy Walsh employed a mate of his to be a paid as a fundraiser - and he pulled in way less than the volunteers did who weren't being paid for the privilege and he also cocked up a previously successful ''Legends Evening'' Gala that volunteers had organized that was cancelled as a result of his in poor performance.
Regardless of the ''rights'' or ''wrongs'' of the formation of the club, there are some hard working fans involved whose efforts frankly haven't deserved to be shat on from those elected members, chosen to steer the ship forward.

Legends Evening you say............... bearing in mind the club has only been going for a few years these legends would not have played for another club would they ? a club that they have turned their back on, surely not.

Haha I've got a visions of Bert Sproggins or whoever who scored a goal at Woodley Sports to gain promotion from the Northwest Counties Division 2 or a Carlo Sartori type ex rag being the star turn.

I have some sympathy with lower / non league clubs who have gone down the fan ownership route. I have worked with a few over the years in a professional capacity. However I have little sympathy for these clowns. They had an arrogance about them from day 1. Plenty of small sports clubs suffer and go bust, this lot do not deserve any special treatment.

Although it is quite funny watching this ridiculous club unfold, as a Manchester council tax payer I would like assurances from the council that they are not going to throw more money at it to avoid embarrassment and I would like to know how much has already been spent.

You'd have more luck getting FC Scum to submit to a voluntary audit of the fundraising books.

A friend of mine whose area of expertise is community work and who's assisted various football clubs with their community programmes attended a conference a while back at which a couple of FC United representatives spoke. His verdict on them was that they were well-meaning but rather clueless. It was a serious error of judgement, IMO, for Manchester City Council to have had anything to do with them, though I suspect that was a political decision (MCC don't have the real Manchester United within their area, so decided to welcome this half-arsed fake version instead).

I agree that they're fundamentally different from Chester, Halifax, Darlington, Hereford and the like, who represent a town and fought to ensure that their community retained a professional football club. FC United suffered no loss of their club and represent no one but themselves. They leech off the identity of one of the world's most famous sports clubs, without which they'd be nothing. As it is, they're like the football equivalent of a third-rate tribute band as compared with the original artist. And I'm pretty nauseated by their absolute sense of entitlement - they seemed to have an idea that MCC had some kind of moral duty to help them find a stadium and so on.

They aren't really on my radar very much so I don't think of them except when I see something on Twitter or look at this thread. However, I do think that the football landscape would be a better place if this anomaly weren't in it.
