I think seeing as Wimbledon had their club stolen from them and moved 65 miles north (and 2 years later changed the name of the club) it was only right that AFC Wimbledon was able to register that name,The FA allowed AFC Wimbledon to use that name (as a fan owned club) when Wimbledon FC moved to Milton Keynes.
Moston were always going to milk the rag name to maximise interest, though I'm sure they would claim it was to focus on the protest aspect.
The fans starting the club were wanting to keep football in the area and keep the name of the club alive.
Total contrast to the Rag Socks setting up their club by a bunch of attention seekers and opportunists
