Haha! Good one.

it's true.

His grand slam wins:

Wimbledon-Philippoussis-03(says it all), Roddick-04(Limited, doesn't have the bottle either) & 05-(says it all that Roddick kept making finals), 06-Nadal(Nadal still developing but the signs were there) & 07(Nadal took him all the way, best Fed has played imho), Roddick-09(No way Roddick should have taken a supposed legend like Fed all the way like that),

Australia-Safin-04(says it all), Baghdatis-06(says it all again), Gonzalez-07(really Becker there), Murray-2010(Bottle job).

French-Soderling-09(Nadal injured, Soderling bottle job).

US-Hewitt-04(not the best by a distance), Agassi-05(fairytale, past his best), 06-Roddick(said it before), Djokovic-07(Novak developing, not the player he is now), Murray-08(bottle job apu).

Hardly a stellar cast of players there, just being decent but limited players and the top stars now when they were still young and developing, now they're growing to their peak he's getting beat regularly by at least one of them.

I told you he actually believes it.

because it's true, as I've proved, ta.

murray still won't win the comp.

Either Nadal will destroy him or Djoko definately will, Murray hasn't had the bottle to deliver in big matches.

Federer's star is waning, not the best player in the world now, hasn't been for a good while.

He was only the best when there was no good challenger, now he has players like Djoko and Nadal it's shown him up to be what he is, just a good player who got lucky by having a weak era.

Haha! Good one.

There must be a lot of "decent" players out there wondering why they haven't won 16 Grand Slams then...

Federer now though is past his peak, the way he played at his peak theres not much chance of him getting beat by Novak, Murray, Tsonga etc. At his peak he was outstanding, easily one of the best tennis players of all time

He pushed the great Pete Sampras all the way when he was only a kid and didn't know much about Wimbledon, he shown everyone how talented he was then

I'd be surprised if Murray, Nadal and Novak are anywhere near the quality that Federer is at now when they are his age

Roddick, Hewitt and especially Safin were all great players.

Did you miss his 4th round encounter with Pistol Pete in 01'?

no they weren't, all very good at what they could do, woefully exposed at their weaknesses, hence why they didn't win that many slams.

1 match against Pete Sampras really makes someone great.

I forget, how many slams have you won again?

I'd be surprised if Murray, Nadal and Novak are anywhere near the quality that Federer is at now when they are his age

if Federer was the same age at them he wouldn't be nearly as good as he was at his peak because he wouldn't have been able to dominate and win slam after slam against weaker players to give him the confidence and mental edge which kept him at the top when the new generation came through for a year and a bit.

It's like Real Madrid beating Valencia 16 times and then Barca coming up and thrashing them a few times, and people still saying Real are great when clearly they aren't, they just beat a considerably less talented team so many times people think they are great.

United won the league and got to the Champions League, they aren't a great side though.

-- Wed Jun 29, 2011 4:48 pm --

i'm not comparing him to me so the point is futile and completely irrelevant.

For the likes of Nadal now who has 10 grand slam titles, who's the competition other than Federer and recently Novak? Is Murray any better than say Hewitt was when Federer was winning?

Federer didn't win 16 grand slams because he was just a good player that got lucky, he won them because he's a fantastic tennis player who was up against some very good players, the same with regards Sampras, the same for Nadal
