Fees.

Don't see any issue in people expressing their displeasure about how the club spend their money

You see Grealish getting signed for £100mil and not justifying the price tag whereas you see Luis Dias excelling at the dipper for £45mil then it's hard to swallow

Likewise had we spent £150mil on Kane last year we probably wouldn't have any money for Haaland and maybe would've had to sell players just to balance the books...something we don't have to do now

I don't care if the club spend £50mil on Phillips, my problem is that for that fee we should be getting someone better than that which helps the team
my point is if the fans say 150 is too much for a player it wouldn't stop us buying him.

Well no shit

But that's like saying why post on the match threads "make a sub" as the club aren't going to make a sub

It's a discussion, and whether you like it or not a transfer fee is a main part of that discussion....and we aren't alone, every fan I talk to of other clubs talk about transfer fees

It's part of the game

End of the day nothing we say on social media is going to influence the club....but that doesn't mean we can't talk about it

All discussion is good...I'm just saying how do you determine what too much is on a buy or not enough on a sale...beside an obvious bust or steal well down the road no one on here knows the inner workings of any team's finances or what goes into determining valuations and such...we all watch and many of us have played so even though we're still amateurs we can comment on performance, selections, tactics...its a big part of being a fan...anyone can say they like or don't like a player...I just find it funny that people believe they know the market better than clubs...people say this guy or that guy is not worth X...based on what?...someone is not worth X because someone on here says so?...for me its meaningless discussion, but if others want to discuss fees, have at it...

No club gets every transfer correct and some continually make horrendous mistakes. I’m guessing but I think some Barcelona fans had something to say about being £0.9 billion pounds in debt due to poor acquisitions.

If there are supporters saying they know better then I don't think they are phrasing their sentiments very well but they have an opinion on a decision their club has made like anything else.

The very specific comment “it’s not your money” is the laziest non-sensical and irrelevant comment I see on BM. Who thinks it’s their money?! Why should that stop a discussion? Are we allowed to praise City if they make a great signing that is a bargain or do we have to keep quiet because the saving City made isn’t transferred into our bank accounts?

Again, everything is open to discussion...I guess I'm trying to figure out how anyone knows a signing is a bargain at the time of the signing or how someone knows we're overspending...based on what?...we've all seen players play countless times so we feel we have valid opinions on who should start or what position is best or what formation fits who...we all have players we like and don't like but that has no bearing on how such players are valued on the transfer market by clubs...for me, again jmo, worrying about what City are willing to pay for someone or asking for someone holds minimal relevance...the same way you believe the statement "its not your money" to be lazy I find those continually offering up "money better spent" to be awfully presumptuous...just sayin'...

You can not simultaneously complain about your season ticket going up, the price of a pint at the ground, the price of a replica kit and say transfer fees are not youre money

Its literally your season ticket money, your matchday money and your merchandise money (as well as other commercial money) creating a transfer budget

Isn’t the point of forums like this that fans can chat shit for fun. Wasn’t under the impression Khaldoon was on here arguing for sign off before doing anything.

I no longer care who cost what as I don’t measure a player by that metric, I’m only bothered about how they play for us.

I do get that others see the transfer cost as something to measure a player by & understand why

I used to do that when we didn’t have a pit to piss in (£6m for Fowler was a piss take & a complete waste of money)

However, now we’re so well run, I really couldn’t give a shit as I trust them get get far more tight than wrong nowadays

On a side note: Not sure I agree with Dias excelling. He’s been pretty excellent in some games, but he’s been pretty anonymous in others. 26 games, 6 goals & 5 assists isn’t the best. Pretty good, but wouldn’t say exactly excelling

It is absolutely legitimate to question transfer fees. The club operates as a business, and has all the usual operating and financing issues of any business. We might not be shareholders in the business, but as supporters we are stakeholders. There is not an infinite source of capital. Investing large sums on a particular asset means that there is less available to invest in other assets. If we can question the players we sign then we can certainly question the price paid.
Yeah definitely, I thought everybody knew this is why people discuss transfer fees?

Clubs clearly have a budget every season for transfers, so it's logical to assume that fans will want to maximize the use of those funds.
