Well we all know Neil Warnock is an anagram of Colin Wanker and there must be a chance PB's forename is Colin.

Not suggesting PB is a wanker of course, but Colin isn't that rare a name.

I can't even stand to look at an image of the GPC anywhere be it tv ,magazine, newspaper, whatever, I dislike the bullying ,self- centred control freak that much.

But I actually Hate him now for walking away from the fight.

It's the same with all bullies ,cannot stand to lose the control, control he adored which put a grudgingly respectful veneer over his lowly up bringing.always fighting his own inner demons.

He could never get over it.

Having said all of that there is one picture of the GPC I adore ,I can stare at if for hours on end.

The picture of his purple nosed ,florid ,bacon like chops as the disgusting realisation dawned on him that "ickle City" had " literally" forcefully snatched the premiership trophy out of his sweaty pudgy hands and claimed it as their own ...thanks to Sergio.

He will never get over that.not ever.

Despite all his manipulations, bullying and power brokering ,at the end of the day City pissed on his parade.

It will haunt him to the end.
My favourite image of the GPC is from the 6-1 where at the end of the game Bobby made his way to their bench to ambush him for the handshake rather than wait until they met at the mid point between the two benches as is normal convention.

That and Bobby giving him what for on the touchline at the Eithad.

You mean these...
That last photo cracks me up - the look on the GPC's face says it all!

It's like something off a wildlife programme where the elder in a pack of wild animals tries to assert his power and authority over one of the younger members of the pack. No blows were exchanged , but afterwards the old timer realised that he didn't quite have the same amount of authority as before and his time was starting to run out....

Upon reflection, united winning the league last year, painful though it was, was definitely to City's long term advantage.

There is the obvious reason behind that, of course, namely that Ferguson felt he could resign whilst on top. His intensely competitive nature would not have allowed him to leave a beaten man and his determination to stay on another season more than he planned and take the title back (if true) underline the incredible reserves of self-belief that he had, a belief that was entirely justified it has to be said.

It is this will to win and self-belief, however, that could very well prove to significantly damage united in the medium to long term. It was clear to anyone that united's squad had two glaring and systemic problems at its heart. A lack of power and purpose in midfield and a rapidly ageing defence. Rather than take steps to address these deficiencies and to build again for the long term, Ferguson elected to go for a quick fix to get the League back. He bought Van Persie, a man rapidly approaching his 30th birthday. This was at odds with his previous MO when attempting to recover from footballing adversity, where he took great risks when rebuilding: selling Ince, Hughes and Kanchelskis and going with the "kids" was one such example. On this occasion he went for the quick fix - because he was so consumed by reclaiming the title that no other considerations entered his thoughts in any meaningful sense.

It has to be said that the fact he achieved his objective is a testament to his powers as a football manager: especially with that squad. Some blues allow their personal dislike for him to infect their ability to objectively analyse his achievements: for me he was the greatest manager of all time, but because his energies were entirely focused on winning the league last year he gave little or no thought to the problems which now threaten to overwhelm united's squad. When squads age there comes a point when things can unravel very quickly - it may well be that we're now at that point. Certainly the fear factor has gone. In being such a driven, competitive and focused man, his parting gift to united could well be a legacy similar to Liverpool's after he'd "knocked them off their fucking perch'".

Everyone has an achilles heel and Ferguson's was that he loved winning so much, and hating losing to City so much, especially in that manner, that he went fighting his own selfish battle, rather than the one that was in the best interests of a club he spent 26 years building into such a force. Sergio's goal, it seems, becomes even more significant and beautiful with the passage of time.

As to Taggart's book, I would be lying if I said there wasn't a few bits I wasn't looking forward to digesting: September 1st 2008; April 16th 2011 and May 13th 2012 spring to mind.

Fantastic post
In a nutshell he is a cowerdly selfish bully with the morrals of an ally cat or just an out and out tw@t.

I'm not having it that Ferguson would damage them to make a few quid.

Have you never heard of a couple of Irishmen by the names of JP McManus and John Magnier?
Didn't seem to bother him what effect the 'Rock of Gibraltar' situation had on the club.

Exactly!

I bet Ferguson makes no mention of that, and how in the end it led to the Glazers buying United.

In fact, when was the last time anyone dared to ask him about that lasting legacy he left at Old Trafford?

Not once have the adoring hordes at Old Trafford and around the World ever criticized Ferguson for that.

He put a horse and his personal battle with JP McManus and John Magnier before his beloved club.

I'd pay good money to have a gander at the 99 questions they were going to ask in court.

A very good analysis, GDM and I have to say, you may well have a point.

However, I reckon the three dates in the last paragraph will all be glossed over.
