My slight concern is that it appears that the Glazers are aware of this and will release more transfer fees. They clearly were prepared to splash big this summer having bid for Bale. It's too early to rule out Moyes as a successful manager for them at this stage, but at the moment it's looking promising.
So they had the money to bid for Bale but wouldn't bid realistic amounts for their other targets? Or am i being Clarkied?

By the way, it's almost ten o'clock. Has the book not been released yet or did the world end and I missed it?
Book details can't be made public until 2pm. That's why Wee Davey's press conference has been switched to 1.30, so they can't ask him about the autobiography until after they've lost to Sociedad

I don't know the ins and outs of their transfer business, or how much is a PR exercise to keep the American share price up. But I do know they tried to bid for Bale, so that means that clearly funds are available for the right players.

having funds available and using sufficient fund to tempt spurs into parting are a completely different thing.

Of course they are. I never said "They nearly signed Bale", I said "they had enough funds available to make a bid".

They might have bid £50m for all I know, but it does show that they will try to reinforce their squad in the near future. If they don't, they'll be fighting for third and fourth place if they aren't careful.

I bid $100 and a couple of pints for Bale for my local Sunday league team, does that mean I actually have gotten Feliani? (No, cos he was only my 6th choice)

Making a bid you know will be rejected is solely PR. Same as the bids for Fabregas, et al. There was little money available, £30M was mentioned at the end of last season.

With transfers these days it’s all smoke and mirrors. The only thing you can go off is the squad list that is submitted once the window closes. And united had a woeful window.
If they don’t have the money anymore then they’re in deep trouble. But also I would suggest that if funds were indeed available yet they were still unable to land their targets it also suggests they have a big problem.

I will caveat all that by saying now is not the time to start crowing – come Sunday night they might only be a couple of points behind us.

I'm not saying that they aren't going through a transition period, mate, and I'm really hoping it continues to be a painful one. I also think we are well ahead of them in terms of squad quality. But what I'm saying is that even though they've had a bad window, it won't always be like that and I suspect they will be attracting some better players over the next year or two. They need to to keep competing and it will represent a legitimate and necessary investment for The Glazers. If United fall out of the Champions League their cash cow will dry up pretty quickly.

I'm 100% confident that he resigned because he was told only that amount was available. I said it before the summer and was proved right about the £30m.

Of course there were other personal reasons to add into the mix but that conversation with Air Miles Ed, after Gill had told him the money was available to bring Ronaldo back, was definitely the catalyst.

That story which is apparently in the book that him and Gill both told each other at the same time (which would have been early this year) is complete bullshit. The Glazers kicked Gill upstairs in my opinion as they wanted to bring spending under control. They reckoned they could manage without Gill better than they could without Baconface and they also reckoned (wrongly as it turned out) that they could buy Baconface off in return for him accepting a lower transfer budget.

Whether they panicked after he resigned or whether the bids were pure PR I simply don't know but I strongly suspect the latter. If their assumption was that wee Davey would keep them in the Top 3, then that seems to be another one they got wrong. It will be interesting to see what they do in January, particularly if they're still well off the pace.

Yes, they aren't going to drift into mid-table obscurity. I'm confident moyes will be a failure - it's just to what degree he fails. Winning nothing for united is failure but i'm holding out hope for them finishing outside the top 4.

It's a real shame that he is both so (likely) close to the end of his life, and still has so many ties to the club, because this could have been one of the best, and sorry for the use of the word, sauciest autobiographies you've ever seen. That man will have some unbelievable stories to tell.

There would also be a risk of signing off his rag legacy with some very damaging revelations, which wouldn't be the wisest idea. Like I say, shame.
