Fernandinho - 2018/19 Performances

At the time we signed Ferny there was a report that when he played for Shakhtar there was a game v CFC where he virtually performed miracles on the pitch. I took it all with a pinch of salt, but how many times have we seen him do just that in a sky blue shirt. His performance last night was just staggering, among another swathe of outstanding City players' performances.

When we first signed him it was his games for Shakhtar against Chelsea that I watched. What I saw was a pretty wiry lad in midfield who had plenty of energy and would pick up the ball and turn on a sixpence before playing it forward. He has turned into a monster since, how he outmaneuvers players of all sizes is class, hes like a whippet charging around the pitch breaking up play and sticking in a boot to nick the ball. I can't see anyone else in the world that has the same attributes. FDJ has great awareness and passing ability but physically or defensively isn't there yet (may never be!) and Ndombele is more of a Yaya type, brute strength and power.

We can't replace, we will just have to adapt and change when he is no longer the same player. One of the very best imports into the prem and a City legend imo.

Just wish he was 23 not 33.

Something very interesting about Fernandinho for me is that when we signed him he was more of an attacking midfielder, like a Gundogan box to box workhorse.

We've actually turned him into one of the best holding midfielders in the world. He was born for that position. The clearing up, getting across both ways and putting out fires is of course his bread and butter, but the way he receives it from the keeper, pivots and passes forward is central to our entire game and the reason we couldn't impose ourselves enough in his absence.

Pep must have been licking his lips when he saw him. He's the perfect player for his system.

It was in 2012 irrc. Willian also had a great game I remember wishing we would buy both. We actually got one and what a bargain he has turned out to be. Handled the job of two midfielders while playing with Yaya for so long. Unbelievably consistent. Played LB, RB, CB, AM all kinds of positions and never once complained. Now under Pep he’s the best DM in the world. Playing a ridiculously high number of games and playing all of them well or better.

A true City legend, there is no debate about that imo

I've always tried to tell non blues he's one of the best, if not the best in the world at what he does for years.

Of course they thought i was just biased. A lot of neutrals were watching last night, and a lot will now finally realise what an incredible player he is.

Not a single defensive CM i'd have in his place. Not by a long way.... His passing is something else too.....

Immense and a legend. Love the fella.

The media are finally waking up to how good he really is.

Wasn't he more of an attacking, box to box mid previously?
Makes his transition (and the fact that he successfully played in a midfield 2 with Yaya) that much more impressive
Yes, he played more as an orthodox box-to-box midfielder for Shakhtar in the CL.

I suspect that no longer playing in a two with Yaya has given him a new lease of life, too often he was doing Yaya's defensive duties as well as his own in Yaya's last couple of seasons.
