Truth is I don't give a fuck about the money. It's the sheikh's money and he'll spend it how he pleases.

We have enough bean counters to make sure that we're not overspending. Shakhtar aren't some piss poor small club, they have a tycoon owner who probably like selling his best players as much as we do.

I could not be more excited. To finally, FINALLY have a mobile, good passing midfield partner for Yaya is something I've fantasized about since Yaya got here. Tremendous buy and well done to everyone involved. Fernandinho's attitude is outstanding and he is very motivated. Good times!

Exactly. So long as City are happy that they will not get into FFP difficulties by buying the players that they need, they can pay what they like for individual players.

Totally agree. This summer is the evolution of the whole club

Twitcher Jr. reckons he'll be the signing of the summer. Is that the kiss of death? ;)

Yep, and without diverting the discussion, the growing number of very richly backed clubs across Europe makes any FFP penalties look increasingly unlikely.

Did we make a mistake signing Fernandinho???

Now bear with me and read my post before you decide to hate.

First i am a huge fan of Fernandinho and i am above the moon that we signed him.
But this signing does seem a bit dodgy and its doesn't make 100% sense.
Paulinho from Corinthias does to me seem to be doing the same job.

1. Paulinho is 24 years old, Fernandinho is 28.
2. Shaktar said on their OS that he got sold to us for 40mil Euro, Corinthians wants 20 mil Euro for Paulinho. (<a class="postlink" href="http://www.goal.com/en-my/news/3956/transfer-zone/2013/06/06/4030141/corinthians-want-17m-for-inter-target-paulinho" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.goal.com/en-my/news/3956/tra ... t-paulinho</a>)
3. Skill wise they both seem at equal level, i have probably seen them both play 20+ matches each this season.
4. Paulinho is picked ahead of Fernandinho for the National team.
5. Well maybe the same as nr1. But Paulinho got resale value, Fernandinho doesnt.
6. Dont know about wages, but my guess would be they could be around same amount, maybe Paulinho a bit less and he would come straight from Corinthias, where as Fernandinho had his contract bumped up quite a bit a few years back.

So did we pick the wrong Brazilian??

Well he's committed to the move and that's for sure. Ditched £4m in loyalty payments to force the move.

Talksport just had someone on to discuss Fernandinho. I don't know who he was, but he was very positive and basically salivating at the prospect of Yaya and Fernandinho playing together next season. He said that the player that Fernandinho was most like was Yaya, and can you imagine the prospect of 2 Yaya's in 1 midfield! Happy days!
I'm hoping he isn't like yaya in that he can tackle.

I too think if the reported 34m is correct then it's far too much money we've paid. I'd like to know what Shakhtar paid for him? That's my opinion and it doesn't matter that it's not my money. Also because I and other people have the opinion we have paid too it much does not also mean we are being negative, pessimistic or whatever. We'll all still be supporting the club just as much as ever before and it's just an opinion on a message board.

6.8 million euros.

Cheers Ray. That's a nice tidy profit for an 8 year investment.

With the greatest respect though Josh, you could argue that Arsenal paid £2.75m for van Persie and then made a nice tidy profit selling him for £24m. You don't see many United fans complaining. Granted, the figures are different but the same principle applies. If Fernandinho helps us win the league then who's to say it was bad business by the club?

Hypothetical, of course, but from what I've seen he'll improve us considerably. I think the fee is inflated, but if Soriano, Begiristain and Khaldoon think it's affordable then I'll trust their judgement for now. Personally, this is the most excited I've been about a new season for a long time.

Excited about this player. Missing link. An upgrade on Barry and Garcia and a great player to allow Rodwell to develop with this lad along side him as a safety blanket.

I don't doubt he will improve us and it seems on the face of it a huge improvement on last season's signings but then that wouldn't be too difficult. The money doesn't bother me or affect my life one bit so I'm not really that arsed but I'd very much like to see us sell players for similar fees just once in a while. All that said if the criteria is as long as it wins us the league then lets go and buy Cavani for 80m, lets go and get Ronaldo for 100m and lets go and buy Messi for 250m, we could even raid the Rags for RVP I reckon 50m would get him and lets win every cup possible next year and recuperate the money back in one go. Like I said I'm not really bothered I just think 30/34m for somebody who let's be honest isn't in the top bracket of players is becoming excessive and one could with some justification ask where is it going to end?

The problem with football clubs is everybody looks at it like its a personal attack on their own family if one questions the validity of something that their club does. However it doesn't make the questioner, if they are questioning their own club dislike the club any less for doing so. I just think 34m is a hell of a lot of money for him whether or not he helps us win the league or not.

Rags focused on the reported fee on "rag cafe" but if this kid hits the ground running he'll pay dividends....

Funny because at the beginning of the thread over on the dark side they were salivating about him going to the swamp..... Wankers

Many of these 27/28-year-olds from abroad are healthier than some of our 24/25-year-olds because they really look after themselves. Navas is incredibly fast and even if he loses a yard of pace will still be faster than most wingers. I bet Fernandinho will last much longer at a high level than Rooney for example. Bayern just gave Franck Ribery a new contract extension until 2017 and he's 30, yet shows few signs of regression.

I'm just laughing at the comments on the BBC article "average player" "another player to warm their bench". A lot of people are going to be fucking shocked when he smashes in a 20 yard screamer against their team.

Rag cunts, they are crying out for a player like this lad. He is going to be immense for us, we shouldnt underestimate the desire he had to come and play for the mighty blues. Roll on next season.

With a bit of luck he's going to be ndj with pace ,passing and the odd goal

Like someone put it on twitter: "Passes like Silva, tackles like De Jong".

The prospect of him alongside Yaya is too exciting.

I think the fee is inflated

It's worth bearing in mind Shakhtar are an oil rich club with fuck all obligation to sell players they have on long contracts. They have a far better recent European history than us and are genuinely one of the top teams in Europe even if they play in the Russian league. All the histrionics about what he's costing are well misplaced.

£45m for the 2 combined is a fair price IMO.

Not really
Fernadinho is good but not 34m good. If he was young than yeah, but i think its too much for a player that has been playing in Ukraine and not in the Brazillian squad.

He cost more than Yaya Toure and David Silva, and he isnt as good as those players.

I think city overpaid for him.

Navas's fee is fair and accurate.

22.5m for each player is decent IMO. What isn't decent is 50m + Eto'o for Ibrahimovic.
yep never liked the deal and wanted eto'o to stay but at least we went on to win the cl without eto'o.
it worked out in the end and we have messi!<br /><br />-- Fri Jun 07, 2013 12:16 am --<br /><br />

Yeah i never get comments like that

speaks of sour grapes

I can understand being neutral and saying the fee was too much but still he may end up being worth it....

but to say he is ''average'' is laughable when he clearly isnt.

If the 30+ million is true, i think we have been bummed. Glad we have started with the transfers nice and early though, i have a sneaky feeling something huge is coming up
