They are from the Ukraine. They play in their own League. Main rival is Dynamo Kiev. They don't play in the Russian League

I think the fee is inflated

It's worth bearing in mind Shakhtar are an oil rich club with fuck all obligation to sell players they have on long contracts. They have a far better recent European history than us and are genuinely one of the top teams in Europe even if they play in the Russian league. All the histrionics about what he's costing are well misplaced.

They neither are oil rich nor they play in the Russian league; other pieces you seem to have gotten spot on :)

You're very funny for a Russian

I thought with Ferran & Cheeky coming in our days of paying massive overs would effectively be gone...

Seemingly not, especially when you consider the comments from the owner of Seville regarding the Navas sale.

Maybe their instructions are just to get the desired players in whatever the cost.

Signing of the Summer according to Redknapp....Jamie that is.

Must be true then......

John Cross (Daily Mirror) said that on talksport the other day also.

Talksport just had someone on to discuss Fernandinho. I don't know who he was, but he was very positive and basically salivating at the prospect of Yaya and Fernandinho playing together next season. He said that the player that Fernandinho was most like was Yaya, and can you imagine the prospect of 2 Yaya's in 1 midfield! Happy days!

Just been watching the newspaper review on SSN Darren Lewis from the Mirror was going through and picked up on one headline..

Jamie redknapp saying that although early in the window, this will be the best signing of the summer.

Heres what he says.;

Fernandinho is a sensational capture for Manchester City. He could be the best midfielder in the Barclays Premier League next season.
Chelsea have made their own statement with the appointment of their manager, Jose Mourinho, but Manchester City are making all the noise off the field with their signings.

Big move: Fernandinho arrives at the club for a fee of £34m from Shakhtar

They needed more power in midfield, having been over-reliant on Yaya Toure. Both Gareth Barry and Javier Garcia are too one-paced.
Fernandinho can become a monster. His stand-out Champions League performances for Shakhtar Donetsk suggest he will be a weapon in the Premier League once he comes to terms with the increased fitness demands.
He is an expensive investment for a player who has just turned 28. His fee and salary is believed to be costing £30million but it’s not as if City are hard up.
Full name Fernando Luiz Rosa (Fernandinho means little Fernando) he is thin up top but his power comes from his thighs and he covers the ground at speed.
There is nothing worse as a midfield player than a rival who runs at you. It takes you out of your comfort zone.
We pigeon-hole midfielders into what they can and can’t do. This Brazilian can do the lot. He can play one-twos at real pace, drive at opponents, tackle, intercept, win the ball and set up a breakaway. He is what City have been missing.
They also needed more width and they have moved quickly to sign Jesus Navas, who is a flying machine.
On the bounce: Fernandinho becomes City's first signing of the summer, but Jesus Navas should follow soon
VIDEO: Fernandinho goals and highlights

He’s a terrific crosser of the ball but, while he will resolve City’s problem with being too narrow, who will get on the end of his crosses?

Maybe there is still more to come from them in the transfer market, especially if Edin Dzeko departs. So that’s two players, costing close to £50m, who will make an instant impact on their team.

Last summer, City were slow to share Roberto Mancini’s vision and lost out on Robin van Persie to Manchester United (and lost the title in their indecision).

They have not made the same mistake again, with Manuel Pellegrini still to take up his post.
All three leading contenders need new players, which promises a crazy transfer market with a trio of new managers looking to lay down their marker.
United are still looking for more goals from midfield (Cristiano Ronaldo and/or Cesc Fabregas would do the trick), Chelsea need a striker and are looking at Hulk, among others.
All this makes you think one thing: I love the Ashes and the Lions, but I can’t wait for the football season to begin.
New managers, new heroes. Bring it on.

Rags focused on the reported fee on "rag cafe" but if this kid hits the ground running he'll pay dividends....

Funny because at the beginning of the thread over on the dark side they were salivating about him going to the swamp..... Wankers

fucking hilarious mate, read it myself, first page saying how good he is and how good hed be for them as hes what they need, then as soon as we sign him they go on about his price. hypocritical.

I'm confused. Is the fee the one Sky reported yesterday, just the price of the player I mean? (£34m). Or did they have it wrong?
It's been quoted as anything from £20 million to 40 million Euros

You pays your money you takes your chance

Apologies MODS, but it's going to get lost in the Atmosphere thread.

Many thanks. :-)

"He waved his transfer fee, to play for Man City, FernandInho!"

34M for a 28!! year old brazilian from a ukrainian team. I'm sorry but thats way too much!
For that amount of money we could get witsel from zenit.
4 years younger and in my humble opinion a much better player.

But I give fernandinho the chance to prove himself, good luck!

I'm sure that he'll appreciate that. I think I'll trust the highly paid professional team at the club to sign the right players ;.)

We haven't paid £34m. It was being put around last night that the £34m was the £22m fee plus wages.

The story as far as I understand it is that we offered £22m cash plus add-ons, which they rejected. We then upped it to £25m cash, which took the potential value to £30m if all targets were achieved.

When Fernandinho agreed to forgo his £4m bonus the deal was agreed. So we've actually paid £25m in cash.

What was it that Brennan was tweeting, about the £34m being the actual price we paid? Only glimpsed at it, but he had a quote in there....

Here's my thoughts, I'm sure you're all on tenterhooks to know.

The figure of 40million Euros has been confirmed by Shakhtar themselves, and everyone is bitching about it. But think about it this way. Shakhtar are losing one of their best players, do you really expect them to be jumping about saying they've sold him for the low amount we agreed upfront for him, or is it much more likely that they'll be giving off the image they've got a good deal out of it by telling everyone the maximum money that he could earn?
t seems logical to me that they'd have included the wage and the bonuses and are bragging about that.

Anyway at the end of the day this is a good thing because it's obvious that the higher-ups have figured some way to say F*** you to the farce that is FFP.

Let's all just sit back, stop our bitching and wait to see what other surprises this summer holds in store for us. Because I can tell you one thing, next season is going to be a doozy. Trust me about that last bit, I'm ITK
