This bothers me... WHY would you be pissed off about the fee?

Unless he's worried about his inheritance?

Because it creates the perception that we just throw money at players and clubs to get them to come and join us. However, in this case, i don't think that there are many players available that are as good as Fernandinho, so we had to overpay or we would still be lacking steel in midfield. Fernandinho is also a very good passer and tackler. From what i have seen of him, he seems to be a mix of De Jong and YaYa.

Probably because such a large fee could restrict our future spending somewhere down the line

According to the newsreader on SSN a few minutes ago:

"Fernandinho has completed his move to Chelsea, he scored the winner against his new club for Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League last October..."

We didn't hold on to him for very long then did we?!
And I bet we sold him for £15 million....

Initial impressions:

Negs:
£30m a lot for a 28 year old.

Pros:
Champions League experience
Used to freezing cold winters
Looks a very good player
Will want to make an impression for the Brazil WC team.

Lets make him welcome and wish him luck. I'm sure his game will come on with us. You get out what you put in, if he wants it he can achieve it.

I see from his words not speculating as most journos that he want to impress his ambition is to play the world cup so he is now a city player its up to him to do the job all the talking and nonsense ... forget wait and see at the end of the next season you can judge

by the way, thats the problem with dumb fans in Football always have to open their dirty mouths about other teams and you feel jealousy when they talk about city (the case of new players).

Do stop banging on about the fee, being City fans you should know better than to just repeat the crap that the media spew out.
There's a good piece in the online Mail from Jamie Redknapp http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ing-summer--JAMIE-REDKNAPP.html#ixzz2VVbAw0dT
except for the headline which is "Why £34m Fernandinho is already the signing of the summer" and then follows up with "His fee and salary is believed to be costing £30 million", so they can't even keep their story straight in the one article.
He believes Fernandinho will absolutely boss the midfield next season BTW.

I personally think the fee only would have been around the £22 million mark which was originally quoted but :-
1. who knows?
2. who cares?

Shakhter have announced the fee at 40m euros which is £34m, the fee unfortunately seems to be correct.

Which in itself is interesting as the Ukraine doesn't have Euros as its currency

not all at once though, as and when he hits certain measures we pay more in instalments.

That is a very serious amount of cash for a 28 year old unproven in the Premiership. He will have very little resale value so he better be good!

34 mill. pound (40 mill. euro) includes the 4 million pound (6 million euro) bonus for the player who, in order to get his transferwish, waived by. Shaktar stating it was 40 million euro, whatever.

What's wrong with people questioning the fee?

Loads of posts going down the "it's not your money, so why care?" route, doesn't the same apply to anything else?

"I don't rate the manager, I think he should be sacked" "well it's not your club, other people own and run it, so why do you care?"

Seem to be silent when weeo signed for the rags for round about the same amount many years ago....

Agreed. When we concede a goal do people who are saying 'it's not your money' just sit there and go 'it doesn't matter, it's not me who's conceded it'!?

And as has been pointed out, looking at the bigger picture it does come out of our pocket:

'We could charge more than £104. Let's say we charged £300. We'd get £2m more in income but what's £2m to us?
'In a transfer discussion you argue about that sum for five minutes. But the difference between £104 and £300 is huge for the fan.
'We do not think the fans are like cows, who you milk. Football has got to be for everybody.
'That's the biggest difference between us and England.'

Maybe we could have argued for 5 minutes longer and a lot of us wouldn't have dropped out of the cup schemes this season?

That said, looking forward to seeing Fernandinho in a City shirt. We've desperately needed some pace in midfield and Fernandinho and Navas should provide it. Looking like an exciting season ahead but there's still a long way to go this summer and we've got to get it right

Yeah totally agree, and £30m spent on this guy is £30m less that we could spend on a proven world class player.

Just out of interest guys who is driving all this transfer activity? Is it the new manager?

in four years, with a bagful of trophies, we'll sell him to new york city for fifty eight million...

lol I think that's higher than the salary cap for all MLS teams combined, and by a distance :)

Fernandinho is proven though?

He is not some unknown brazilian we have picked up in the backwaters of Ukraine.

Also if he cost 30m then Txiki and everyone believed that to be a good fee or we would have moved on.

As for those saying we could have spent it elsewhere, I didn't realise you all knew the "top" midfielders in Europe and their transfer situations.

Do you really think we just went to Fernandinho and paid the money, didn't even bother asking about the availability of anyone else eg Vidal.
