Milner did the job ok in the second half, although we could do with some more cover there

problem is that milner is not a play maker. he's more of a barn stormer.

fernandinho is a very interesting player. he has a bit of makalele inside him. a bit of scholes, busquets and senna. he is the deep lying play maker we have been missing.

We missed him above all the other day, IMO.

The lack of control, tempo and mobility in the middle was telling without him.

He was Villas creative midfielder when he was there, he has got a good pass on him but he just doesn't have the same eye for a pass as people like fernandinho

Yes a agree. He was mised the MOST at Sunderland game. He is modern DM. Good at defending but still very quick and with good assists + strong on the ball. He will be soon in Brasil first 11. HE is a TOP TOP player and best Pellegrinis signing by FAR.

Yes but in a more advanced role. I'm not sure he's cut out for a deep lying central role.

What Milner does well is he moves the ball quickly. That was something badly lacking in the first half; we were justtoo slow with the ball. Once Milner moved centrally we got started to get the ball into dangerous positions quickly (it's just a shame it usually fell to the headless chicken that is Navas).

I think if we'd started with him there, had a bit f urgency in the middle of the park, we might have got a better result. Tippy-tappy football looks nice but if it gives the opposition time to get 11 men behind the ball then it isn't going to be very effective. You've got to stretch out teams like that; it's not about being 'creative', it's about being direct and crisp with the ball.

Well, explain to me what's wrong with that assessment? I don't think I'm alone here in saying that our build up play was too slow, nor am I alone in rating Milner.

You're entitled to disagree with me, but at least try to give an account of why you think I'm wrong.
