Fernandinho

While I appreciate Redknapp and the Mail aren't the most popular on here.......

This was from June and spot on by Jnr Twitcher.

Why £34m Fernandinho is already the signing of the summer
--------------------------------------------------------------

Fernandinho is a sensational capture for Manchester City. He could be the best midfielder in the Barclays Premier League next season
They needed more power in midfield, having been over-reliant on Yaya Toure. Both Gareth Barry and Javier Garcia are too one-paced.

Fernandinho can become a monster. His stand-out Champions League performances for Shakhtar Donetsk suggest he will be a weapon in the Premier League once he comes to terms with the increased fitness demands.

He is an expensive investment for a player who has just turned 28. His fee and salary is believed to be costing £30million but it’s not as if City are hard up.

Full name Fernando Luiz Rosa (Fernandinho means little Fernando) he is thin up top but his power comes from his thighs and he covers the ground at speed.

There is nothing worse as a midfield player than a rival who runs at you. It takes you out of your comfort zone.

We pigeon-hole midfielders into what they can and can’t do. This Brazilian can do the lot. He can play one-twos at real pace, drive at opponents, tackle, intercept, win the ball and set up a breakaway. He is what City have been missing.

The complete central midfielder suited to the PL, similar to Gerrard a few years back...great engine, tackles, good passing ability, goes past players and hopefully will add one or two more goals like yesterday. Need another just like him!

Don't think he possesses the same long passing range as Gerrard does/did, but with our game, he doesn't really need it!

I knew very little about him and was skeptical due to the fee, but wow he is looking like a real class act.

Shame the same couldn't be said of some of our fans! Flopinho, poor man's Gelson, etc.

blightee's comments I won't soon forget, he's been conspicuously absent from this thread lately (now he's on to writing off Panti and Guidetti).

Personally, I think a few, were too quick to criticise him.
Most of us were, I certainly was, I thought he was too slight for the PL.

I'm delighted to say I was wrong, my original opinion was complete bollox. The sunderland defeat was mostly down to his loss, he links our team like Barry did, but in a far better way. Watching him yesterday I don't think "burn out" will come any time soon either, he continues to improve with every game, on top of a motm performance yesterday, he also scored twice, and looked fresh as a daisy at the finish. Also what a team player the lad is, anyone else on 2 goals, with a last second penalty to take would have insisted on taking it, not a bit of it, never got involved with Yaya, and was the first over to celebrate with him, with a great smile that showed he was pleased for Yaya.

A complete mystery why he isn't in the Brazil team.

Fair play that cleavers, as you say a very good issue to be proven wrong over.

I think he is better than anyone else in the world atm, yeah i said it, or at last as good as any one else someone could mention.

Zin,the first 50 or so pages of this thread says different.......You were scrapping with a good few of the numpties!

he has it in his locker but we don't play that way where by he'd display it to often
