Fernandinho

It's quite simple, it's blatantly obvious today the problem in the midfield, fernandinho was so far out of position today it was frightening.

Yaya/Fernandinho will never work, you have Yaya who strolls about like he doesn't have to do anything. Then you have Fernandinho, who covers ground but unfortunately can't keep it up after 20 minutes.

The whole point of the two, is one holding and one attacking. Now the problem.. they're both too attack minded. Fernandinho against Newcastle was average. All this garbage about him being brilliant. He got away with murder (first game and allowances made) but in reality he wasn't very good and today he was worse, he made 2 good tackles in that game and that was about it. He lost the ball too many times in the wrong areas and he's ALWAYS takes too many touches (against Hull he did it 6 times inside the first 25 minutes).

You need one tackler, a grafter, a workhorse, a man who can cover the middle left right and centre. Then you need one man who can carry the ball, attack, put in the odd tackle, but makes sure he stays tight and marks. That setup was Yaya Toure and De Jong. It won't work with Fernandinho and Yaya.

Indifference, unbalanced. Yaya pushes on, Fernandinho goes forward aswell at times - wonder why on the counter attack we're so open? intelligence tells you not to go forward, don't need to be a professional footballer to work that one out.

Against United RVP will come short and we'll get fucking steamrolled in the centre, Yaya can't tackle. So that leaves Fernandinho, who also has proved he hasn't quite got the pace of the English game as of yet. He needs time, and i'll tell you now... if we start with Yaya and Fernandinho in the Champions League, we'll get absolutely destroyed.

Barry and De Jong never worked, Fernandinho and Yaya will never work.

James Milner or Jack Rodwell. Or even both with Yaya advanced as another option, i'll give Fernandinho time and he deserves a chance. But it tells you all everything you need to know about a footballer, if he doesn't recognise his own mistakes after a few months.

It's quite simple, we need a player of De Jongs ability who can tackle and win the ball. Who cares if he isn't skilful? that's not their job. Win the ball, clean up. Supply the next man, they do the rest..

When did Yaya ever play with De Jong in a 2 man midfield? Rarely, if ever. There was never a partnership established between the 2. So your point becomes flawed straight away.

Fernandinho is more than capable of playing as an anchorman. It just so happens that at the moment for whatever reason, Yaya has been asked to be the deeper sitting player. We don't even need an anchorman in the high line system that Pellegrini is trying to implement, the whole point of this system is that everyone presses the ball high up the pitch and we win the ball back quickly without the need for a holding player to break up the play. You want your reason why we're so open on the counter attack there it is, players laziness in not pressing the ball properly in the opponents half.

Virtually 100% of the top 6/teams in the champions league play with 3 in the middle, it should come as no fucking surprise that we'd get outnumbered in midfield areas if we play with 2 in the middle in these games. Hardly rocket science.

It will take time for Fernandhino to form an effective partnership with Yaya. Yaya is used to playing alongside players like De Jong, Barry & Garcia. He's been given latitude to push forward at will, knowing those players will cover him. But Fernandhino also likes to get forward. The two haven't yet developed an understanding as to when they push forward or sit back. They're very hesitant. They end up stuck in the middle performing neither role particularly effectively.

If they can develop an understanding it could be a brilliant partnership. But at the moment its all a bit Lampard & Gerrard.

Some over-the-top dog turd being posted in here about Fernandinho.

Nobody played great first half so no surprise to see him not shine either. Second half he was the main reason we got a stronger foothold in the game, with non-stop chasing and battling with the opposition. He also showed some neat play.

Looked fit as well and was still making bursts forward at the end.

Some posts are just embarrassing.

Still thinking gelson Fernandez every time I watch him.

Still adapting, but he is the kind of midfielder Pellegrini wants. Which is probably why they are trying to force Barry out. Because he is slow and useless going forward. Doesn't suit the high pressing game. And Garcia IMO is the same. He'll be the next midfielder Txiki will replace with a more all rounded player.

I am sorry that alternative opinion embarrasses you. This kind of forum isn't to everybody's taste.

I find the view that it's alright for one player to be crap if everyone else is a bit daft TBH.

There was no great second half improvement in Fernandinho yesterday. He looked clumsy and ran around to no real effect. Mostly the game passed him by. The guy just does not look like £30 million standard player.

He's had a full pre season and 3 games to show what he can do. If he starts against Stoke ahead of Milner, Barry or Nasri I'll be very disappointed.
