Not read all the thread so apologies if this is repeating anything else already posted. As with all things at the moment the opinion needs the caveat that it is only 3 games gone, however... I'm not sure we can play Yaya + Fernandinho in the same side - or at least not in the system we are currently playing to.

Agree, thought he was supposed to be a box to box midfield dynamo and given we shelled out 30 million for a 28 yo would have expected a finished article. I'll give him time but better impose himself more otherwise Rodwell to start at CM.

Coz its all a bit boring. We have been a bit shit but we've been a bit shit for a bit too long.

We'll win games we shouldn't and we'll win games we should.

Last year we had the team to absolutely beast everyone off the park, but we ended up doing what we did today, and let them think they could play along with us...a lot like we did today. Its a bit embarrassing to let teams like Cardiff and Hulll get up in our grills, but rather them than the big teams. We'll be right. No danger. I have no worries we will be better and better prepared when it comes to the games and the matches where it maters most.. Just hope we are all on board. (I don't class "I've Got My Money - One For The Show Exile, Billy Shears, TG Aaaarrrggghh, Dids Dave, or Owt in there...will you all just grow up?? TGR especially..what are you?? 11???

The 'Gelson' is clearly tongue-in-cheek. However if you think he's a 30mil player on the evidence so far playing against N'castle, Cardiff and Hull then you need your eyes testing.
He looks ok at the moment but not a 30mil cm for the future champions

I think you're a bit wrong. He showed YaYa what a midifield is today. Would have been nice oif YaYa to keep up with him.

Although I'm unsure about Fernandinho I don't think Yaya is helping the situation, Yaya seems to like more of a free role with little responsibility.

ofcourse, if the opposition has more men in midfield, then that will be a problem for yaya and fernandinho. we've seen it vs bayern munich and arsenal in pre-season.

i'm just saying that players do what the manager instructs them to do.

holding midfields traditionally sit in front of the back four. they distribute passes from deep. yaya does very well in that role. but nobody should criticize him for not going further up the pitch because after all, the man is only doing what pellegrini told him to do.

fuck all means little, or nothing at all.

holding midfielders don't do much. they sit in front of the back four. analyzing and reading the game, they do a bit of defeding and passing aswell.

If I was Ferna, i would be visiting th video review guys and requesting a video of all of Gareth Barry's touches from the 2011/2012 season. Will contain all he needs to know, hes still adjusting to playing in what is essentially a 1 man central midfield

It's quite simple, it's blatantly obvious today the problem in the midfield, fernandinho was so far out of position today it was frightening.

Yaya/Fernandinho will never work, you have Yaya who strolls about like he doesn't have to do anything. Then you have Fernandinho, who covers ground but unfortunately can't keep it up after 20 minutes.

The whole point of the two, is one holding and one attacking. Now the problem.. they're both too attack minded. Fernandinho against Newcastle was average. All this garbage about him being brilliant. He got away with murder (first game and allowances made) but in reality he wasn't very good and today he was worse, he made 2 good tackles in that game and that was about it. He lost the ball too many times in the wrong areas and he's ALWAYS takes too many touches (against Hull he did it 6 times inside the first 25 minutes).

You need one tackler, a grafter, a workhorse, a man who can cover the middle left right and centre. Then you need one man who can carry the ball, attack, put in the odd tackle, but makes sure he stays tight and marks. That setup was Yaya Toure and De Jong. It won't work with Fernandinho and Yaya.

Indifference, unbalanced. Yaya pushes on, Fernandinho goes forward aswell at times - wonder why on the counter attack we're so open? intelligence tells you not to go forward, don't need to be a professional footballer to work that one out.

Against United RVP will come short and we'll get fucking steamrolled in the centre, Yaya can't tackle. So that leaves Fernandinho, who also has proved he hasn't quite got the pace of the English game as of yet. He needs time, and i'll tell you now... if we start with Yaya and Fernandinho in the Champions League, we'll get absolutely destroyed.

Barry and De Jong never worked, Fernandinho and Yaya will never work.

James Milner or Jack Rodwell. Or even both with Yaya advanced as another option, i'll give Fernandinho time and he deserves a chance. But it tells you all everything you need to know about a footballer, if he doesn't recognise his own mistakes after a few months.

It's quite simple, we need a player of De Jongs ability who can tackle and win the ball. Who cares if he isn't skilful? that's not their job. Win the ball, clean up. Supply the next man, they do the rest..
