While Torres isn't worth 2x that, Villa is not "far superior" to him.

Villa may not be far superior to a fully fit and match sharp Torres, but that isn't guaranteed with Torres these days is it.

So as an overall proposition, yes i would agree that Villa is far superior.

£70m is a ridiculous and unjustifiable amount of money when you think what Villa went for.

He really isn't, whatever way you want to look at it. If Torres had suffered an Eduardo type injury I might agree. All he needs is rest to fully recover. His injury situation has been so overblown on this board it's unreal.

Even though Chelsea are being really, really strongly linked with Torres, I really can't see us pulling it off. I don't really want us to either. Fantastic player but for £48 Million? We've just shaken off our tag of simply buying out success, and with the self sustainability rules coming in (and the fact if we continue with restraint we should break even by 2012), I just don't think he is really needed. I'd much rather invest in the future- Neymar, Ramires, Luiz and hopefully Aguero next season.

The info I was given as well told me both clubs had pulled out of the race and that he was staying at Liverpool. Don't know how true that is, though.

Still, the reaction from the scousers if he came to London would be hilarious.

Maybe the reason for not keeping on Ballack, J.Cole, Belletti and (probably?) Deco was to make room for him on the wage bill?

In terms of the transfer fee and the UEFA rules we all have a lot longer than 2012 in real terms to break even anyway.

I'd much prefer Dzeko, due to him being a lot less injury prone.

If he stays at Liverpool he will never be able to play to his full potential due to being rushed back early. It would be better for us to see how he gets on as he looked really poor during the world cup and to buy someone for 50 70 million could be disastroius.....Let be patient with this one, next season when we are looking at "champions league" we can have another look and besides they'll be several other decent players to consider by then to, with City being a very desirable team to play for.

Patience is the KEY with this one for me..

Great peice

Interesting that the article refers to "Blue-Mooner Noel." I wonder what username Noel uses on here. There have been some suggestions before that it is THB. I wonder....

Its hard not to get excited about the prospect of Torres in a city shirt.

Injuries and being run into the ground by Liverpool mean he is not the player he was but hes still one of the biggest players in the game on his day. Proven in our league to the highest level, along with Drogba hes streets ahead of any other forward in the prem when hes fit and on song.

I dont think hes any better that David Villa who cost half of what we are being quoted for Torres but we are not Barca and for Liverpool to sell him especially to another english club is virtually impossible so it will take a crazy amount of money to make it happen.

Its another big risk due to his injuries, we have to hope the changes in the backroom staff include a complete new medical team.

Will he come well I thought it impossible but then again I said David SIlva would never come to city so who knows.

Liverpool fans will go mental if they sell him, the yanks wont be able to show their faces at Anfield again if it happens thats for sure.

There is no way he would have the same injury problems with us that he has with liverpool.

We can wait until hes 100% fit before playing him. With Tevez, Adebayor and Balotelli there it wouldnt be a problem giving him time.
