Fernando vs Garcia

Huge upgrade really. He had one very very dodgy game but before that he had 2 games where he was a contendor for MOTM. I think he was just rusty coming back from injury. He tackles when you least expect a player to and that is why he is crucial. Read his interview today and he mentioned that for him stopping goals is as much fun as strikers scoring them. Perfect line that.

FFS !. Why is it when we have a couple of bad games the flappers come out to play and start another rediculous thread. He's only been with us a dog watch and already he is in the frame as being a downgrade.

Wev'e had Mangala Vs Joleon, now this. Who's next?

Lets give them both a chance to show why city were hell bent on signing them

If I was basing this on Garcia from last season and Fernando from this then I'm with the OP.

However it's early days, Garcia really improved under Pelle, hopefully Fernando will too.

So you slagged off Garcia until he left ,now you've switched to his replacement who's been in the country about 3 fuckin months, grow up !

huge upgrade, and this coming from a garcia fan.

I respect your opinion mate, perhaps you have seen something that I haven't. I thought Garcia did very well in the last 6 games last season, despite not being his biggest fan before that.

For me, particularly against West Ham I thought Fernando looked very laboured when we didn't have the ball. When we did, I thought he constantly went missing and never made any attempt to show feet to receive the ball. The vast majority of the time he did have the ball at his feet, he slowed us down.

Compare that to Fernandinho, who is always buzzing around the place trying to win the ball back quickly. Always moving and making runs so he can receive the ball, and always looking for the forward pass and to keep our tempo up when in possession. I really think they are poles apart in terms of quality.

In comparison with Garcia, I'd be interested to know what you think Fernando offers that Garcia doesn't? I'm not angling for an argument, I'm genuinely interested in people's view on Fernado's strengths as a player.

one word mate.
tenacity.
he's got fight, a little too much at present and refs are looking at him. he's scared of the prem at the moment. once settled he'll be awesome.
i'd like to see him and fern without yaya.

Garcia only took 16 months to settle, if you can call it that

Fernando is merely getting up to speed with the pace, no doubt in my mind that he will get there a hell of a lot sooner than Garcia did, also 5x more productive when he does.

IMO the persistence with playing 2 in the middle will eventually bare fruits, hes like 2 players when on his game, which will come

patience is undoubtedly the key and hanging in there!!!

How can Fernando be judged! It's way too early and he's had an injury. He earned rave reviews at Porto, and he looks like a crucial anchor man which will allow Yaya to bomb forward. He has looked a bit clumsy at times, but he is still adapting! Give him time, just like all the other signings. I am sure Mangala AND Sagna will both prove to be decent too

No contest IMO, Fernando all day long.

If he is played in the position he was bought for then I think he can become a City great, thats in the hole between defence and midfield and he,alongside the whole team, need solidity and less rotations, keep the back 4 as settled as possible with Fernando in front and Dino and Yaya in centre.
