Manchester City closing in on Fernando as Brazilian cuts short holiday to tie up deal

City will take the midfield anchor from Porto as Manuel Pellegrini looks to improve last season's championship-winning squad

Fernando has cut short his holiday in Brazil to complete his £16million move to Manchester City.

Fernando, 26, has returned to Portugal and is waiting for the nod from Porto to fly to Manchester to complete his move.

His agent Antonio Araujo said: "Fernando is in the city of Porto and is waiting for FC Porto to tell him the transfer documents are completed and he can travel immediately."

City are believed to have agreed an initial £12million fee for the defensive midfielder, rising to £16million with add-ons.

The Blues anticipate no problems with Fernando's move and expect to confirm him as their first summer signing by the weekend.

City have been tracking Fernando, who attracted interest from Everton, for the best of a year and want him to take some of the burden off Yaya Toure and Fernandinho.

The Premier League champions insist his arrival will not spell the end at the Etihad for Javi Garcia, although the Spaniard's first-team prospects will be hit.

Wow I know Youtbe makes anyone look a world beater but there are some awesome tackle and passes in there!
THe enforcer we have been mising since NDJ.

Flip me ....this guy looks the real deal. Fast, scary strong, great anticipation and desire and skills too! But some of those horizontal tackles mean he will be a red card magnet

Manchester City are interested in Porto striker Jackson Martinez.

The Colombia international's Italian representative, Peppino Tirri, has confirmed the interest of Arsenal and Manchester United.

However, TMW says City are also keen, with Tirri confirming meetings are planned with interested clubs this week.

A City move for Martinez could have repercussions for Alvaro Negredo, who is a top target for Spanish champs Atletico Madrid as they prepare to lose Diego Costa to Chelsea.

If Martinez goes to Valencia and Fernando to City.....I think Porto might try to keep hold of Managla. I read somewhere that Porto would only be willing to let 2 of the 3 go.........
