Ferran Soriano: City positioning themselves as “club of the future”

Not sure the Telegraph reported this but:

Begristain told Argentine site Infobae : “If you look at the 10 most expensive signings of all time, none of them play for City.

“Do we have [Paul] Pogba, [Romelu] Lukaku, Neymar or [Kylian] Mbappe? Of course, we made an important investment in the transfer market because we had to change the age of the squad.

“But all of the players we bought would now be worth £100m. And, in addition, Manchester City now earns a lot of money.

“In the last three years, we have not spent more than we have raised economically, so I see no reason for criticism.”

That picture is of Gorton FC, not St Mark’s (they were not one and the same). St Marks played in scarlet and black I think. And both of those clubs were forerunners to Ardwick, not Manchester City.

I’d have to have a search for a sky blue City link.

We've used light blue and white since 1894 with various appearances of maroon and navy on some kits as a third colour.

No. It’s St Marks (West Gorton) which later merged with Ardwick to become Manchester City.

Yeah, seems to be the black and white kit, black and scarlet, navy blue and white stripes, half and half light blue and white (Blackburn style) and then at the time of the name change we changed to the modern colour system.

We didn't start out as Manchester City though, Ardwick and St Marks were no more separate clubs than Woolwich Arsenal were to Arsenal, Newton Heath to the rags, The Wednesday to Sheffield Wednesday etc etc
