Ferran Soriano & Txiki Begiristain

Fans panic and fans demand signings. Our club should not! Over the last 2 or 3 seasons I feel we've signed players for the sake of it. If we can't sign our top targets I would rather we didn't spend on lesser level players and take a chance on youth or sign more high risk young players.

Bony seems a worthless signing. Navas too.

I never have like and never will like the DoF model.

As fro Txiki, his record doesn't stand up too well..

Fernandinho
Navas
Jovetic
Negredo
Demichelis
Fernando
Sagna
Caballero
Zuculini
Mangala
Bony

That's £168 million by my reckoning.

Appalling and indefensible.

Not great is it?

Dinho & Martin the only real successes. Mangala may prove to be but I'm not 100% confident. Bony, well I just can't see why we needed him. Zuculini, who knows? The rest, not really good enough.

Now Txiki... I think it's slightly unfair to label him a failure but he is losing a lot of goodwill. His signings in summer 2013 completed a squad that won a domestic double and made progress in Europe, despite still falling well short. Last summer's signings are looking worse and worse by the day, although I still believe Mangala is a good long-term investment (just an overpriced one). So I think he's had one good window and one bad window
.

I agree with most of your post but I find it hard to see how he's had one good window when it looks like 2 out of those 4 players will be gone after 2 seasons and the other 2 have actually declined from their first season. How is that a good return on an investment of 100 m.? I agree on Mangala - it's too early to say but you make a good point on strikers.

Soriano is doing his job well, the club is posting record revenues and functioning well on the business side. I'm not sure he can be faulted unless he involves himself in football matters which I don't think he does much.
And therein lies the problem. Under Cook, we were a football club which we tried to run as a business. Under Soriano we seem to be a business that occasionally remembers it has a sideline as a football club. Without success on the field, nothing else really matters.
Alas with FFP that's just how it has to be - at least for now.

Could it be that behind the curtains they are still loyal to their former club ?
I just can't trust them to put City on the right rails to finally join the european elite top 3, and thus, threatening Barcelona.
Maybe i have watched too many spy & conspiracies movies.

You mean like Soriano going back to stand as Barca president one day

The thought had more than crossed my mind

My biggest fear when we invested in New York and Melbourne was that certain figures would take their eye off city matters and focus on the other clubs too much. I think it is coming true. I didn't realise that Soriano (+ others) would be working for NYCFC too, I assumed they would get their own people so our guys could remain 100% committed to MCFC.

I'm also disappointed that Khaldoon seems to be less involved since the Spanish 2 arrived (it certainly appears that way as he receives less media attention than before, may not be true though) as I rate him and his capabilities very highly.

When you see the official MCFC twitter congratulating the youth team of Melbourne City on winning some competition, and then a few hours later see a terrible performance at Anfield (I know the 2 aren't connected) its certainly frustrating, as I don't give a shit about the achievements of the other teams if MCFC aren't doing well.

On topic and the only way is up for Txiki in my eyes, he was supposedly in charge of overseeing the link between EDS and first team, which is another failure up to now, and as for the signings, well, enough has been said over the last few pages.

Thanks for giving me that sh** flag last Tuesday .
Its like being at the circus at the Ethihad these day .

TB only has one quality signing Fernandinho, though Mangala may come good. Navas looked good but has deteriorated badly this season. The rest are squad fillers with the exception of Fernando who is just awful - no worse than awful - truly appalling.

Thank God TB wasn't able to get Fernando and Mangala as last winter's window closed. We'd have lost the Premier League and Possibly the League Cup as well.
