Ferran Torres

He’s not the same as Sané but he does have that initial burst to go past players. One thing he has in his locker is his delivery of a pass/cross. I have to give him that. Does that well. It’s tough and will be tough to find someone similar to Sané. Even if the club want to buy a pace merchant, he has to have a football brain at least.

Big asset is he is comfortable with both feet. Players who are one footed always try to cut inside, something defenders know about and it is easier to defend. We need someone who can go both ways - This lad is young, has great technical ability and will be easy to coach. The reason Mahrez was brought in was he was at his peak, and would offer a plan B when teams sit deep. I haven't seen that from him and it all gets a bit predictable. That said, against teams that are not so tactically astute he plays very well. Torres will give us something different and is quite direct which is what we lack. I like the look of him but as with all signings only time will tell.

I think his directness is somethign we do lack - foden offers it as well at times with his running at players

Agree I’ve only seen the you tube stuff, but he looks very two footed and the Bernardo, Mahrez comparisons confuse me. From what I’ve seen is much quicker and direct, with as you say an ability to go outside in positions Mahrez and Bernardo turn back or inside.

Exactly this. Also, Mahrez worked because teams didn’t sit back as much against Leicester. He had more time to do his things.

Torres has a good shot on him as well. Being ambipedal also keeps the defenders guessing. If he comes, only time will tell if he can make it. He’s still very young. Younger the the current wingers at the club.

Maybe the comparison is related to his technical ability? If not, I don’t see how the similarities. Has more pace and is direct. Doesn’t have Sané pace but it’s hard to find someone with the full package.

As seen last night, that initial burst of speed is what we need. Sane would have been no good last night, there was no space in behind Arsenal for him to run into. We needed someone who could get around a defender over 5 yards and then deliver quality in tight spaces. Sane was great at lightning quick counter attacks, but against parked busses, he was very frustrating. How many times did he run the ball out of play? As he had no space to use his pace and get in behind.

Now I can't recall ever seeing Torres play. If he has that Tevez burst of acceleration, which can get him away from a player even though there is no room to operate, and has Mahrez like technical quality, then he would fit in well with this squad.

He does have that. This is also coupled with the wicked delivery of a good cross. If you watch Valencia, you’d want to beat up their forwards as they miss a hatful of chances when he whips a cross in. Being ambipedal is a plus as he keeps defenders guessing. Not sure if he’d be a great buy but he has age on his side to become a really good player for the team.

I thought Mahrez was a good player but he has more time on the ball and teams didn’t defend as deep against Leicester. His skilled dribbling is good but doesn’t work a lot as he can be forced to pass back. Can’t also release those quick crosses over the top (like he did for Vardy) as teams defend deep against City.

According to Valencia mouthpiece superdeporte, Valencia want cash only deal for Torres.

They want Herrera only on loan
