Feyenoord(A) - Post Match Thread

Some exhilarating football from City, again. Clearly went into game management / conserve energy mode in second half but kept pressing when they needed to.

I think the pressing has gone up a notch at the start of this season and, is it my imagination or have all those rondos in training started to pay off? I thought we dealt with their attempts to press us really well last night. If we do a better job of dealing with opponents who try to press us hard, we will be a bigger threat than we were.

The team just needs to keep progressing, the potential of this group is mouth-watering.

The high pressing was hugely impressive, best since barca last year. Even at 4-0 we were still doing it.

With regards to your last point, this team will win the Champions League in the next 2-3 years. We are progressing beautifully.

Main difference with Kev this season is that he looks lean, fully fit, and has got an extra yard of pace which is buying him extra time on the ball.

Looking every inch one of the best players in Europe, hope he keeps it up.
he's playing amazing at the moment! the only thing I would say is he started on fire last season as well and was receiving all similar plaudits, and then around Christmas and after Christmas his form dipped alarmingly, maybe it was to do with having his little one im not sure...just hope he can keep up a similar level of performance until May which will really out him in the bracket of the top top players and give us every chance in getting some silver ware :)

Feyenoord are not as bad as being made out. Utd lost there last year. They set up for a high energy, physical pressing game that the lower Premier League sides have used with some success against City. The crowd was behind them.

We were just too good, energetic, fast and even out muscled them. The early goals helped but all sides will tire chasing shadows and few will hold out for 90 mins. If we play like this and with such a strong bench, I think we will see teams expect defeat before the start rather than thinking they have a chance of a result by sitting back and hoping for a break.

Could have scored 5-6 if we didn't let up in the 2nd half. Great energy overall. Team has a ton of quality and a plethora of attacking options.

It's early in the season and I am not one for tempting fate about anything - especially City - but I feel like we are making progress in the right direction under Pep. The new players at the back have had a immediate impact. I rated Walker as the best RB in the league before he arrived but so far he has proved to be better than I expected. Mendy has the potential to be an absolute beast and I look forward to Pep guiding him. Ederson has hardly been tested as a keeper but has done nothing to suggest he is not up to the job; his bravery is already without question and I can see him being rated the best keeper around when it comes to distribution.

Yep. every single one of the new signings looks like a big upgrade, especially Walker and Mendy. It's solved the Kolorov/Zabaleta/fullback problem perfectly.

I don't believe in fate. I believe in football, and I believe in this manager and this team. If we have a weakness, it's that teams can hit us on the break when the full backs pile forward. But if we keep scoring like we are doing, and I believe we will, then it really won't be a problem.

I've said since the summer...I think this will be the most successful season in the club's history.

It's true that KDB did make a cracking start last year and then faded somewhat. However, he does seem to be maturing as a player and I think Pep is molding him into the centre piece of this side. Hopefully, this season he can be rested at times so that he does not burn out.
