FFP - 21 Man Squad Restriction & Homegrown Quota

Without any signings we can get almost all the appropriate players in the CL squad under the 13 +8. In respect of signings we are in no different a position than the rags are at the minute and how we were before we had qualified for the damn thing in the first place. No reason that any of the signings will refuse to tip up knowing they won't get CL next season provided the club explain they will be in when the restrictions are lifted. If the players are young enough and paid enough there should not be a problem. Alternatively if they will only come to us on the condition they are on the A list then some of our established players might have to make way for them or be sold.

The club seem to be sending out the message our signings are done and that the restrictions are workable.

In view of all the above why are we not fucking the Rags off and going for Luke Shaw.
Puzzled but I am sure our guys know what they are doing, I hope.

I think it might be because we think he is overrated and overvalued

Yeah they proved they knew what they were doing when they came up with such gems as Rodwell and Sinclair. We should be bidding for him no question even if it was only to put his price up.

I hope City have not accepted uefa's sanctions on the basis that we have taken our own interpretation of the detailed squad rules and assumed that it is 17+4, when in reality it is 13+8?

I love City to bits, but we can make cock ups, and given that we did not seem to know as a club what result we needed at Bayern to go through as group winners, and given it seems that we may have misinterpreted the ffp calculations and thought we would get through ffp without sanctions, then is it not at least possible that a senior official at the club has misinterpreted the rules and assumed we are ok at 17+4, when in fact we are not? I assume we are more professional than that at the Executive level?

He's completely wrong. Nowhere in the rules does it say anything about 17.. Because 17 is not the starting point, and if it was it would say so.

In the examples at the back, it shows free 17 plus up to 8 additional, simply based on the fact the your are allowed a total of 25 of which 8 must be homegrown, so the result is 17 free.

If you start with 21 in total, unless UEFA have said you can have less than 8 homegrown - and they haven't or we would have heard about it - then the number of free players is 13.

Read it and weep.
Annex VIII would disagree and as it happens there is a piece on setanta's website today that states we only need 4 home grown players. Of course we don't even have to have them but they definitely believe it's 4 not 8. And no, I don't know where they get their information.

I would like to think that if it was 13+8 rather than 17+4 then there is no way that the cub would have agreed to it, but the Fail seemed pretty sure it was 13+8
To be fair I'd forgotten the fail and let's face it they're never wrong are they. 17+4 it is then.

How the fuck is it insulting bollocks? I asked a question, asked is it possible, COULD someone have misinterpreted the rules? I would find it harder to believe that the club could not have briefed the manager on the score needed to win a CL group than it is to misinterpret some extremely complicated squad quote rules, but forgive me for fucking asking

and to be equally fair I did not say, or even infer, that the Fail were right, I just commented that they seemed pretty sure. I do agree with your inference that the Fail is often wrong, however I am yet to see anything which tells me that 17+4 is secure (hundreds of pages on ffp in this forum, but no common agreement on whether it is 17+4 or 13+8)

I'm not sure this helps clarify your situation, but there's this link here: http://www.uefa.com/news/newsid=943393.html

More importantly,

From 2008/09, clubs in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League required a minimum of eight homegrown players in a squad limited to 25. These rules are also in force in several national leagues across Europe.

• UEFA introduced the rule in three phases:
Season 2006/07: minimum of four homegrown players in 25-man squad
Season 2007/08: minimum of six homegrown players in 25-man squad
Season 2008/09: minimum of eight homegrown players in 25-man squad

• Clubs have no obligation to put a certain number of homegrown players on the field of play, or on the matchsheet. They are entirely free in their team and matchday squad selection.

But in other news, Atalanta fans threw bananas onto the pitch in a match vs AC Milan. Also reports a knife was thrown as well. What's the odds they escape a 60m euro fine? UEFA are a joke...
