Surely 2 goalkeepers is plenty. Fucking hell how unlucky would you need to be for your 3rd choice to be called on although I read somewhere he can be named as a reserve. The only positive I can see is that Milner definitely won't be leaving and Micah might also now not leave. Time to force the price of a few Southampton players up!

where has it been said that 8 of our 21 definitely have to be home grown? I ought the current rule was 8 out of a larger number than 21 (25 maybe?) and therefore do we know for a fact that the requirement for 8 is unchanged, given our lower overall allowable number?

Provided Richards goes and Sagna comes in we can name 13 players from the following:

Pants
Sagna
Zaba
Kompany
MDM
Kola
Silva
Nasri
Navas
Yaya
Garcia
Jovetic
Aguero
Dzeko
Negredo

In theory it shouldn't be that difficult to handle that. We can lose Pants and use one of the club trained keepers. From there you'd probably have to lose one of the strikers.

My worry would definitely be in midfield. Doesn't matter if we sign Fernando we can't register him without sacrificing a player in another position thus leaving us short in that position. At centre half Nastasic and Boyata at least can come in if we have injuries.

Are you taking into account that we may sign Fernando and one of Mangala or Benatia ....

no but we also do not know for sure that the reduction is entirely from the foreign players - may well be but just not seen it confirmed anywhere
