Absolutely incredible though, isn't it, that this still hasn't been confirmed and you even have journalists and AC Milan's director unsure and arguing about it.

I have a feeling it could be intentionally vague for two reasons.

It really is 8 and we don't want it confirmed to make signings easier. Or it should be 5, but UEFA will switch at the last moment to make it 8 to fuck us over.

Either way it is very fishy that we have no written confirmation. I cannot believe we are trusting UEFA on anything after what's happened in the last week.

Think about it, if it was 8 why would UEFA just not come out and confirm it

Agreed. And if it's 5, why haven't we corrected all the news outlets publishing 8? Are we afraid the news will tempt an appeal?

The whole thing is bizarre.

If we only need 5 home growns. That's great news. Since we can name 16 foreign + Nastasic who is on the B list in the champions league. Which means 17 foreign players in the CL squad which goes hand in hand with the PL quota.
great news but Nastasic is not a locally trained player and will not be one of the 5. He signed for us in 2012 aged 19 too late to be eligible.
He goes on the b list GH, we can name 16 foreigners, 5 homegrown/club-trained and nastasic if the above is true.
He goes on the UEFA A list as one of the (hopefully) 16 foreign trained players - if he's still here. Please see our current CL squad here if you are in doubt.

Here 2 full seasons after this season, born after 01/01/1993 so b list. Couldn't be on the b list last year as he hadn't been here for long enough.

as I posted earlier on a different thread
The B list is for players under 21 but the rules provide for those with only two years registered at a local club to be available for selection for UEFA competitions by anticipating they will complete a third year before they reach the age limit. Nastasic was signed by us from a foreign club aged 19 and is therefore unable to meet the UEFA locally trained criteria. We went through all this on here with Balotelli.

GH, read the actual UEFA regs on the B-list: Nastasic is eligible for the 14/15 season.

Conditions for registration: List B

18.16 Each club is entitled to register an unlimited number of players on List B
during the season. The list must be submitted by no later than 24.00 CET on
the day before the match in question.

18.17 A player may be registered on List B if he is born on or after 1 January 1993
and has been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted
period of two years since his 15th birthday by the time he is registered with
UEFA. Players aged 16 may be registered on List B if they have been
registered with the participating club for the previous two years without
interruption.

I have to agree with you on that. I posted earlier that I think people are probably mistaken in thinking that the other clubs only kmow what is in the public domain, it makes no sense. There's no reason they can't ask for details and be allowed to see them.

That said, the poster who has been in touch with UEFA was told by their pr people that UEFA hadn't actually decided yet! (is that this thread? its hard to keep up).

There is every reason why other clubs can not see the fine print, it's commercially sensitive information, part of the deal may have been a confidentially clause

I don't mean the details of our submittion to UEFA, I mean the details of our agreement with EUFA on our 'punishment'. Surely this will all come to light at some point? can't think why it would be commercially sensitive. Certainly, the composition of our CL squad is going to be very public after we release it. Of course, I could be being a bit thick, wouldn't be the first time.

Conditions for registration: List A
18.08 No club may have more than 25 players on List A during the season, two of whom must be goalkeepers. As a minimum, eight places are reserved exclusively for “locally trained players” and no club may have more than four “association-trained players” listed on these eight places on List A. List A must specify the players who qualify as being “locally trained”, as well as whether they are “club-trained” or “association-trained”. The possible combinations that enable clubs to comply with the List A requirements are set out in Annex VIII.
18.09 A “locally trained player” is either a “club-trained player” or an “association-trained player”.
18.10 A “club-trained player” is a player who, between the age of 15 (or the start of the season during which he turns 15) and 21 (or the end of the season during which he turns 21), and irrespective of his nationality and age, has been registered with his current club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons (i.e. a period starting with the first official match of the relevant national championship and ending with the last official match of that relevant national championship) or of 36 months.
18.11 An “association-trained player” is a player who, between the age of 15 (or the start of the season during which the player turns 15) and 21 (or the end of the season during which the player turns 21), and irrespective of his nationality and age, has been registered with a club or with other clubs affiliated to the same association as that of his current club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or of 36 months.
18.12 If a club has fewer than eight locally trained players in its squad, then the maximum number of players on List A is reduced accordingly.

Why are you quoting List A regs when we're talking about List B??

because those are the relevant ones for determining whether Nastasic is eligible as a locally trained player and can be counted as one of the five - if that's how it turns out. The B list only contains players who turn twenty one in the current season, Nastasic turned 21 last season. I'm going to write a scholarly monograph on this.
