Not for the CL
OK - here we go again. He spent 36 months registered as a Swampie between 31st July 2009 and 3rd August 2012 when he signed for Juventus - that three years means he qualified as a locally trained player with the England and Wales Football Association and should he sign for us would therefore qualify to play in the Champions League as such. In this respect alone he resembles Nastasic. I will brook no disagreement on this matter.

Don't contracts end of 30th June? If so and he left Juventus for free, then the period in between 30th June and 3rd August won't count

According to Wiki Pogba's signing wasn't finalised until 7th October 2009 because of a dispute with Le Havre.

Only sure thing is one foreign player will be leaving 100% or not play in PL.

Most likely to leave based on rumours: Garcia, Yaya, and one of Negredo/Jovetic. Of course any replacement would have to be English or home grown if just one of them leaves but one of them will leave for sure.

Assuming our squad for the first half of the season is as follows:

GK - Hart, Caballero.
DF - Kompany, Demichellis, Mangala, Nastasic, Zabaleta, Sanga, Kolarov, Clichy.
MF - Yaya, Lampard, Fernando, Fernandinho.
AM - Nasri, Silva, Milner, Navas.
ST - Aguero, Jovetic, Dzeko, Negredo.

Wouldn't that mean that a) one player will miss out on the CL squad and b) another player will have to miss out because of the homegrown quota?

Which would mean that only 20 players from our senior squad could be registered?

Seems to me that's correct - in that list there are 17 foreign players by my reckoning and as far as I understand it we can only name 16 foreigners in 21 man squad for CL and 17 foreign players in 25 man squad for PL.

Foreigners: Cabellero, Kompany, Demichellis, Mangala, Zabaleta, Sagna, Kolarov, Yaya, Fernando, Fernandinho, Nasri, Silva, Navas, Aguero, Jovetic, Dzeko, Negredo

Homegrown: Hart, Clichy, Lampard, Milner ....

Does Nastasic still qualify as B-List for the CL?

Difficult to see which foreigner will be left out of CL squad ... Can't see that any of them would be no less than seriously p*ssed off at the thought!!

Maybe City have still got a surprise in the transfer pipeline ... One more foreigner out from that list and another HG player in .... Seems unlikely though ...

We'll have 21 registered for the CL because you forgot Boyata who is needed as club trained.

Yes, there's one too many non-homegrown for the CL and yes Nastasic counts as U21 so is on the B list. We could take the chance and include Wright as the 2nd goalie however we'd still have to lose 1 out of that entire 22 man squad. The hilarious thing about that is that Boyata would be the first name on the squad list.

it is an irony that once Nastasic emerges from the B list next season (when we will have the full complement of 18 places ) he will be a foreign trained player again. By that time I suppose Demichelis will have moved on and provided Garcia goes to Zenit we'll be able to accommodate all our current players in the CL squad including Negredo.

For the first half of the season it may be Negredo who is left out due to his injury. What happens in January is another matter but if another player is out with a lengthy injury (please God, no) then Negredo will take that player's place. That's the only way I can see it working without causing someone's ego to be injured.
